That was my first thought way back. The Times played around with "Times Select," but that premium content didn't sell well. I had a free pass one year through my work--it also wasn't very "premium," just more stuff, like the extras on a DVD.

Perhaps if all the major papers decided to charge. But then, online content can be stolen and posted so easily.

How about getting together with a thousand people as in a cooperation and hiring someone to do investigative reporting and publishing it on the cooperation website?
