Holder doesn't have any way of knowing that we won't capture Bin Laden alive. I would assume its wishful thinking on his part that we won't capture Bin Laden. Or if Holder isn't hoping and praying out loud that we don't capture Bin Laden, why doesn't he share why it is that he feels so confident that Bin Laden won't be caught?

Thats not quite his motivation Sanity. He knows that there is no way in hell that the public would stand for treating OBL the same way he proposes to treat the other 9/11 conspirators. The public is overwhelmingly against treating civilian trials for them even.

Since he cant justify treating OBL any differently from them, he either has to admit he is wrong about the others, or claim that it will never be an issue because OBL will be dead.

Where did you get the idea that Timothy McVeigh wasn't just a criminal? He was - rightly - tried in a civilian court for mass murder and terrorism. Just because a crime is particularly heinous doesn't make it a "war".

War crimes are very specifically defined. And neither McVeigh nor Bin Laden were war criminals by any definition of the word.

Mass murdering as many innocent civilians as possible in order to terrorize a given population or populations into giving in to political or religious demands is called terrorism and terrorism is deemed by most civilized people as being beyond mere crime, especially when a major organization such as a nation or a religious group form a major global operation expressly for the purpose of fomenting terrorism.

Then it becomes a terroristic war, and its not a mere crime. It is a war, and they're war criminals who commit terrorism. Not mere criminals at all, but war criminals - terrorists.

McVeigh, the Unabomber and OBL are "ordinary criminals"?

They aren't? What are they, then? They killed people (or arranged for the killing). That makes them murderers. Plain and simple.

I'm not going to do a search to find out what you are talking about when you are too lazy to post a link on your own thread.

I provided the quote. In the time you wasted on another snarky post you could have found it. FOM.

Why should I take the time to do that?

It's your thread.

If you can't take the time to provide the link so we can all read the full context of the quote then I have to assume you are purposely taking something out of context to try and make your point.

So in order to cover his own ass on a bad decision (that Obama almost certainly forced on him) he has to demean the efforts of the troops who's specific mission it is to capture OBL. He also gives the ME a sound bite that the US will murder OBL rather than bring him to justice.

Nice hand, sir.

Once Bush made the comment OBL was not a priority I knew he'd never be caught or tried. However, teabaggers and domestic terrorists are scarier than OBL, Saddam and Al Qaida; because they are neighbors, co-workers, food service people, and possibly medical workers and they are insidious.

It’s scary to think there are people who say they will take up weapons and start killing people if health care reform is passed.

"Holder characterized the whole discussion [regarding bin Laden being tried with US constitutional protections]as outside "reality."

"You're talking about a hypothetical that will never occur," he said. "The reality is that we will be reading Miranda rights to the corpse of Usama bin laden. He will never be in an American courtroom. That's a reality."
