pain levels suck.

Marc2b -> RE: pain in hands ouch (3/19/2010 11:53:36 AM)

I'm sorry to hear it.

Are you griping (perfectly understandable - you should hear me gripe when my diverticolitus is acting up) or looking for advice (which I wouldn't have anyway other than: see a doctor)?

I hope things get better.

carpal tunnel -

Oooh, boy, that can hurt.

Vitamin B6 can help, along with an anti-inflammatory like motrin or naproxen.  A drugstore will have splints that are good to sleep in at night.

carpal tunnel -

Typing on the computer is certainly going to aggravate it.

This, plus glucosamine. The combination of glucosamine, regulat NSAIDS ( take them just like the vitamins and herbs- twice a day), and good splints- get the kind with the rigid metal underpiece to help stabalize the wrist- has made things go from unbearable to functional.

I feel your pain - especially in the right hand, which is odd because I am left handed.

Curious. I have left-hand pain, and am right-handed.

Hmm.

What tasks do we relegate to our 'other' hand which could explain this?
Or perhaps, our 'other' hand is weaker, and so more easily traumatized?

this is what i was told.

I am left handed and had corrective surgery in my right hand first, because it was the worse of the two. The left hand was done next. I had to have one repeat surgery on the right hand after about a year (the nerve collapsed again) but i have been pain free ever since.

Should it happen again, i would not hesitate to have it surgically repaired. It is a sickening pain to try to live with.

I've used physical therapy, and acupuncture has done wonders for me. Most days I don't hurt at all. But, then there are somedays where it's unbearable.

blueeyedbbwsub -> RE: pain in hands ouch (4/20/2010 12:04:52 PM)

I had carpal tunnel affect both hands about 10 yrs ago. I had less function in my left hand than the right even though I'm right handed. It was decided that the right would be done first as it was my strong hand. I've never regretted having the surgery done as I was no longer able to write and had a tough time even using a keyboard. I did use the rigid splints but they didn't do much to relieve the pain. The left hand was done a year later and I was lucky that the recovery time was much shorter than the previous year. I know I'm lucky as I was able to get the time off from work at full pay and that medical costs are covered completely in Canada.

have these ever really done anything? I wore one for awhile and had weakening of the muscles as a result.

what they do is allow the muscles a chance to rest (instead of being overworked). they are also helpful when sleeping to keep the hands in a neutral position, as apposed to being bent wrong, and making it worse. Or at least that's my understanding of it..
