PenOnBeadedChain -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 11:12:12 AM)

The GOP mantra "the people don't want this" is only half right and only then in a thin-film deep sense.

The country has been just about evenly split on the bill itself. When statistical noise tips that into "opposition", say 49-46%, Boehner, McConnell and his band of do-nothing juvenile delinquents start chanting "you're ignoring the will of the people!", as he ignores the will of half of the people himself.

The thin-film deep part is something I'm furious at our lazy (and possibly insurance-industry-controlled, due to advertising accounts they're afraid to alienate) media for. The press never seems to ask WHY people are uncomfortable with the bill, if they are. Given that polls consistently show ovewhelming majorities (even Republicans in swing districts) of Americans (along with 73% of doctors) feel we need a Public Health Insurance option to rein in the out-of-control insurance companies (making record profits during the biggest downturn since the Great Depression), it seems logical to conclude that a huge chunk of those "opposed" to the current bill are opposed because it doesn't go far enough. In other words this thing Republicants have been dishonestly calling a "government takeover of 16% of our GDP" (which is laughable, as there is no government takeover at all in it) is not introducing enough control by the government. People want the government to get involved, because they are sick and tired of this industry run wild and their ridiculous antitrust exemption.

Think about that the next time you hear a conservative blithely quoting some poll that shows the public (barely) opposed to the bill that passed. And don't take their word for it when you ask "why" and they say "because they don't want socialism in this country". The known data do NOT indicate this - not even close.

Everything is fine.

Go back to  sleep.

You get bent out of shape when people insult you and infer you are crazy for believing outlandish stuff, but then you post the above.... Isn't that a little hypocritical? Think about it, you are inferring that those of us that do not believe the stuff you post are "asleep" or "sheeple" or a hundred other little condescending remarks, yet when someone tells you to take your meds we are being "abusive"...

Per haps.

But no one has the right to medicate me.

You did not get my point at all... shrugs

Ask Alex, he seems to have the answer for everything.

I opposed the health care bill.  The main reason is that I felt that the health care system is inherently wasteful, and that extending it without fixing it would freeze the waste in place.

Obama made it clear that he wanted the bill, but that he also wanted GOP input.  Instead of that, the GOP opposed the bill and showed no interest in working to add input to it.  They spread lies about death panels, etc., and their tactics were to yell about negative parts of the bill, even though they could and should have simply gotten those parts removed.  The Dems responded to the poisoned atmosphere by spreading counterlies.

When Brown got elected, the GOP crowed that the bill was dead.  They taunted Obama as being ineffective and laughed at him for having been unable to get anything passed with a supermajority previously.

Eventually, Obama just said, "Fuck this", and pushed it through, over GOP howling.

The idiots need to understand that the reason that the Dems got a supermajority in the first place is because the public was so fed up with Bush and the policies that he and the GOP rammed through.  Claiming to have suddenly be the only true party representing the will of the people won't wash.  You cannot set yourself up to be the party of fiscal responsibility after eight years of record deficits, even if your successor is expanding them.

Okay, guys, you can either become the party of whiners complaining that Obama is passing legislation you don't like, or else you can work with him on making the bills more acceptable to you.  Your choice.

DarkSteven, good points.
Yeah, I think everyone was fed up with Bush. And yes, everyone in Washington needs to sit down and work together no matter which party they belong to.
And Justin has a point too, from what I'm hearing out here up to 70% of Americans don't want this plan.
I think it has to go through the senate next, correct?
I think there must be a way to make sure all citizens are covered without taxing the hell out of people who have "good" plans ("Cadillac Plans") already that (they) or their employers pay for.
One thing for sure, there are a lot of angry people out here.
The Dems had better tread lightly or they'll lose *The House* in November! No-one likes to have something shoved down their throats and that's the way many people feel out here.

Nope Popeye,it's the law of the land as of this morning...the "reconciliation process" is nothing more than the tweaking of the two bills...it's all pretty much done.

slvemike4u -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 1:14:26 PM)

Yeah the fucking nerve of them...ensuring that millions of Americans can get basic health care....what the fuck were they thinking!

popeye1250 -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 1:16:23 PM)

Mike, what do you care about Democrats? You're so far to the left they must seem like "Jen-Jiss Khan" to you!

slvemike4u -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 1:22:59 PM)

Bullshit Popeye...I was unable to vote in the recent Presidential primaries because I switched party affiliation in 2008.That's right I had been up till than a *gasp* registered Republican.
Bush /Cheney and the fucking religious right drove me into the arms of the Democratic party...as they continue to drive many Americans....despite what you and others around here would like to beleive I am(channeling his best Sanity impression) center left......not far left.

popeye1250 -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 1:26:31 PM)

Mike, you keep thinking that.

NorthernGent -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 1:32:27 PM)

I'd like to see the US retain its private sector stance on health care.

The world will be a boring place when ideas merge into one.

popeye1250 -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 1:38:40 PM)

Gee, I wonder what's up next for the Dems? Hey, here's an idea, how about they tell everyone that they no longer have local control of their schools and that The Dept of Education in Washington will now be making *all decisions* for schools and educating children in the country?
Oh yeah, that'll go over like a porcupine in a baloon factory.

slvemike4u -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 1:44:43 PM)

Yeah better they come up with something akin to the disastrous"No Child Left Behind Act" like Bush did...talk about fucking up education in this country.....Pops you are a riot.

It is not free.  It forces you to BUY insurance.

Don't ya think people might have done so if they wanted it?

Sanity -> RE: Thanks a whole lot, Republicans. (3/23/2010 2:51:34 PM)

The first time half these Dems have their income tax refund seized to pay their insurance fine they'll start to get their first clue.
