I try to do what you suggest, but it's impossible.

The legalize in most contracts such as health insurance, car insurance, bank agreements, and credit card agreements are specifically designed to be incomprehensible to the average consumer.

On important things like my health and homeowner's policies I have spent hours on the phone without being able to get any straight answers on what my policy does or does not cover.

Companies have legal departments to draft these documents but you are left with uninformed agents or customer service reps to explain what you are or are not covered for under the policy.

Why would you buy a policy that you do not understand?

Better question: why are you such a blockhead?

The whole point is that you have no choice whether you want to buy it or not, and whether you've read it or not.

Because I need the policy.

Tell me you understand every word of every agreement you are party to and we can can end the discussion.

Otherwise it is a lie unless you devote your waking hours to investigating the details of every document you sign from your cable TV contract to the TOS on CM.

Well... yes, I do.  But honestly, there aren't so many that I have had to devote more than a couple of hours to each one before it was signed.  It's not that hard.

No, no you won't. You most definitely do not.

Even email addresses want you to read 20-50 pages of bullshit, usually IN ALL CAPS TO MAKE IT THAT MUCH WORSE.

If you do, then, well, you obviously have no time to read anything actually worth reading. Sad.

Brain -> RE: What does it mean for dental care? (3/26/2010 4:52:02 PM)

Health care reform has nothing to do with dental care whatsoever. I think if you want dental care reform it will probably take Americans another 25 years since the British or Europeans did health care reform 50 years ago and Americans will be just getting their first taste of it now .

ORIGINAL: pahunkboy

Does anyone know what the reform, what effect it has on dental care?

I did a search and do not see much.

With all the commotion, I can not tell.

Any ideas?

First you try to tell me what I will and will not do... then you say "if"?

*sighs*  Idiot.

Be gone.

The 'if' was a hypothetical. I'm assuming, as are a good number of other posters, that you do not actually read all the BS that comes your way.

Why don't you be gone? Honestly, you haven't posted an intelligent thing all day. You couldn't even respond to a simple question Rule asked you.

I'd suggest reading through the bill so you know what is in there.  That's kinda the thing that amazes me the most... how can anyone be for or against this bill if they haven't read it and don't know what's in there?

I'm curious - of the three people who posted prior to you, which of us said anything to suggest we did not know what was in the bill? Please enlighten me, so I can be amazed too.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: What does it mean for dental care? (3/26/2010 6:51:43 PM)

~FR~

Pardon my ignorance but what are these "bills" you are discussing? I thought that healthcare has been passed and signed into law?

I have elected representatives I delegate that activity to.

I'm busy contributing to GDP.

tazzygirl -> RE: What does it mean for dental care? (3/26/2010 6:54:16 PM)

Well, since we dont have the final version, due to the tweaks of the law... i use bills instead, because its all we have copies of at the moment, which may have changed.

Well, TDP... my response was to PA, not to the two persons (yourself and housesub4you) that posted before me.  That PA asked the question at all suggested to me that he had not read it.  It really isn't rocket science reading the bill.  Parts are a little harder to understand if you aren't familiar with Federal law, but the gist of it is fairly easy to read... particularly the list of what is considered "essential health benefits" that I posted.  Also, a quick search of the document for the word "dental" will give a pretty good insight into the sections that even mention it.

Ahhh thanks tazzy [:)]

For a horrible second there I thought maybe I dreamed the whole thing and healthcare hadn't passed.

Have you ever read the definition of the word "smug"?

If not, how can you be sure you know what's in there?

Being smug has nothing to do with it.  I'm just not afraid to read something for myself.

Whether changes will be made or portions interpreted differently, I cannot say.  But for the most part, it's in English and fortunately that is my native tongue and I'm pretty familiar with it.

Musicmystery -> RE: What does it mean for dental care? (3/26/2010 7:04:30 PM)

Ha! Bet you still haven't read it!

This is one of your favorite points. You make it repeatedly.

Take a look.

That's why I DO pay close attention whom I vote for.

I didn't realize that; you probably weren't aware then that of the three of of us, PA was the only one opposed to the bill.

Actually, I took his question to be much broader than the issue of whether it would be covered in the final version of the law - I wonder if the actuarial reworking of the numbers on the health insurance industry will have an impact on the costs of dental insurance. If you push the balloon in somewhere, it bulges out somewhere else. If health insurance becomes less profitable, will the grave robbers try to make up their losses by refiguring the premiums and/or the coverages on dental insurance? Will employers be more likely or less likely to offer dental as part of their benefits packages, or will there be no effect? If employee dental planes become either more or less common, will dentists respond by raising or lowering their fees?

I know some of these are probably stupid questions, but I'm curious nevertheless as to whether there will be any sort of impact. I would imagine someone would have some ideas on whether there'll be any sort of ripple effect.

Well, there were two bills - the main bill, and the smaller set of reconciliation changes. The first bill (the main event) has already been signed by the President, and is now law. The second was sent back to the House by the Senate to correct some language on (I believe) two points. The House passed the corrected version yesterday (if i recall correctly; perhaps it was the day before), and to my knowledge has not yet been signed into law. Of course, i haven't heard a newscast all day, so maybe he already did it.

For that matter, maybe we're at war with China, and it doesn't matter whether he signed it. It's entirely possible, and I wouldn't have any way of knowing one way or t'other.

36 minutes until the 10 PM news comes one....

Musicmystery -> RE: What does it mean for dental care? (3/26/2010 7:26:19 PM)

Dental plans, vision plans and the like are usually riders on the overall policy, with different carriers. At least it works that way with my insurance.

Therefore, there's no reason employers who wished to do so couldn't still offer these types of plans. Or no reason people couldn't purchase them separately if they wished.

Frankly, I could easily live without either. Except for once in a while, it's not expensive health care.
