I just found this funny. Warped sense of humor?

MOUNT DORA: A doctor who considers the national health-care overhaul to be bad medicine for the country posted a sign on his office door telling patients who voted for President Barack Obama to seek care "elsewhere.""I'm not turning anybody away - that would be unethical," Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora urologist and a registered Republican opposed to the health plan, told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. "But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it.""Republican!" - Surprised?! Stunned you say!

Come on now - the war's over. You HAVE to think this is funny!

Sorry mate - he would violate the Hippocratic oath if he refused to treat someone already under his care. He has no obligation to care for someone on the street.

And he does have the right to refuse to treat anyone he chooses - as long as they aren't going to drop dead right away from his choice - ie walk-ins aren't usually in dire need - especially in a urologists office. Most cases of ED and genital warts aren't fatal.

A quick visit to the new dictionary should simplify things.

oath n. 1. What you say to get what you want. 2. In folklore, a promise (now obsolete).

Glad to be of service.

Isn't that the truth! Insurance companies and lawyers mixing it up in medicine. What a recipe for disaster!

And Grayson is already playing the race card...How Democratic.
quote:

Now, U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., is filing a formal complaint with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Medical Board. "A doctor takes an oath to help improve the health of patients, not just Republican patients or Democratic patients or conservatives or liberals," Grayson told ABCNews.com. "They take an oath to cure people." "I think it's disgusting," he said. "I know that most people go into health care because they want to help sick people. They don't have some political agenda. I think it's outrageous that someone would try to press his political agenda, and deny people health care because of it." Democrats in GOP-heavy Mount Dora -- a town of about 9,400 just 30 miles from downtown Orlando -- are largely African American, according to Grayson, so Cassell's sign may constitute illegal discrimination.

Just wait until we pass the next bill, comrades, and complete the government takeover of the entire health care  industry. We'll force him to treat only Democrats, and we'll be measuring the outcomes. If he doesn't do an adequate job of treating them, it'll be  the death panels for him and the labor camp for his wife and children!

This is the final struggle, so let us group together - and tomorrow, the Internationale will be the human race!

Yeah, warts and ED might not be a big deal.  Prostate cancer is.

If I was seeing a neurologist who posted a sign like this I'd be majorly pissed off but wouldn't have much choice in a practical sense.  Generally it can take over 3 months to get in to see a different doc.  Dayton's not high up on the list of happening places, and there aren't that many residency programs in the state.

If I lived in rural Ohio it would be even worse.

It seems he is doing exactly that, turning patients away.

Doctor Ignores Hippocratic Oath; Refuses to Treat Obama Voter

A Florida doctor has decided he doesn't want to treat Democrats, at least those who voted for Barack Obama. Florida urologist Jack Cassell posted a sign on his office door telling those voters to go away.
"If you voted for Obama ... seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your health care begin right now, not in four years."

Yep, that is what his sign says.  And he has leaflet things in his waiting room.  BUT, from the first article, he does not ask the political affiliation of his patients.  He has also stated that he is not turning anyone away.

It is a freedom of speech issue.

For those who missed it...

"I'm not turning anybody away — that would be unethical," Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora urologist and a registered Republican opposed to the health plan, told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. "But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it."

Funny, but he sounds a lot like my liberal teacher who went on a 20 minute rant against the new bill last week.

This is what the Dr said.  This is exactly how it was reported on the local news.  Also, Grayson got involved because one of the Dr's patients called him to let him know about the sign.  (Not saying Grayson wouldn'tve jumped on the bandwagon anyway, once he found out.  But someone did call him to stand for them)

Bullshit.

His "freedom of speech" is turning away those who do not share his political beliefs and violating the the Hippocratic Oath, even the modern version:

I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm. (Wikipedia)
