Yeah the timing is rather suspect, perhaps it has something to do with the other big news this morning, Justice Stevens is going to retire.

Why does Stevens' retirement have any impact on this?

He is considered a moderate liberal on the bench and likely will be replaced by the same.

It was just a bit of wild speculation on my part, there could be some other post in his future.

Wild indeed. He's up there in years, and has always been a quiet man.

I have no trouble accepting he simply wants to retire.

Not on the all important abortion point....and for that fact alone the Obama administration could never put forth his name for the Supreme Court.
This would be way beyond a long shot....and could actually qualify as a "game-changer".

Didn't that bitch from Alaska step down from her gig to spend more time with her family?

teabaggers are such a joke...it will be fun to pull these threads out in a short time to get some explanations from their supporters.

No, she stepped down so she can make tons of money running around the country raking in big bucks for speaking engagements, her book, and her show on Fox.

That nonsense about her devoting more time to her family was typical Palin, because she obviously is spending far less with them.

Meanwhile, her devoted followers ignore that she played them, and continues to do so.

I think you guys read what I wrote backwards. The wild speculation on my part was that Stupak was not running again because of the position opening up with Justice Stevens announcement. Hell, I may not agree with the Justice on many issues, but he was from my point of view a stand up guy, and has definitely earned the right to retire when he wishes. I just figured it would be after the Nov mid-terms, to keep it from being a political football. Unless, of course he is looking at it from the point of view that after the mid-terms the President is going to have a harder time getting a pick through the Senate.

That's funny.... Obama can't even spell moderate..... That's been his problem, he only pays lip service to moderattion.

He probably wants to appoint that fellow that thinks all us white folk should pay reparations to the black man. And we know he'd need his Congressional puppets to still have the majority for something like that.

its a two thirds confirmation vote anyhow isn't it?

I also see that the teabaggers have targeted Romney and Pawlenty and the guy from SD.

Romney for expanding healthcare in Mass, and Pawlenty taking federal money for budget balancing.

Purity and wholesomeness, and its going to be interesting who they say is big shit, Bachmann???? LOLOLOLOFUCKINGL

I didn't have any trouble seeing what you meant Thadius, then again my view isn't clouded by a static left or right stance.

Oh. Yes, I did.

Hmmm. Still wild, I think. It's not usually how these things are done, and there are certainly good choices on the bench.

What was that you were saying about the ability to spell "moderate"?...In light of the way you followed that up I found it a bit curious.

Ya know Ron, I think anybody tough enough to survive their childhood with the name Newt should at least be considered for the POTUS.

Not that I'd vote for him, but damn wouldn't all the lefties around here have a grand ole time making fun of that name.

It still isn't the craziest thing I have heard regarding various runs this election cycle. Look at the claims that Rep. Joe Sestak of Pennsylvania suggested happened when he announced he was going to run in the Dem primary against Sen. Spectre...

As Bull suggested time will tell wheter Stupak's decision not to run was due to some other promise in exchange for his vote.

That would be a fucking shame....Newt's a much better historical novelist than he was as a politician.

Newt argues for inclusion in the Republican Party, for which the Tea Partiers hate him.

I would prefer to see "B1" Bob Dornan run, simply because I think the speeches would be alot more fun to watch.

It's called sarcasm............... and I had a laugh over it.

But frankly I do find it curious, some of the actions and misdirection now openly flaunted in Washington.

Yep, I saw on the news last night that Palin is stumping for Bachman. Anyone want to say Palin/Bachman - Bachman/Palin for 2012? I would like to know which one of them would be on top.

I don't get why they think they're a movement.

A bunch of mainly Republican voters will vote for a bunch of Republican candidates.

Where's the change in that? If anything, they'll just tip the Republican party even further to the right, alienating even more independents.

They are just as likely to alienate moderate Republicans.

The Crist and Rubio contest in Florida could end up being an interesting example of how things might go.

The tea parties have decided Crist is not conservative enough.

The question is whether the other side will turn out and vote for the winning candidate after what is becoming an ugly primary battle.

So you thought this contract was a bad thing?

Actually I think Clinton and that Republican Congress did a right smart job of shaping things up, but as seems to be the norm in Washington, all the good went to bad behind sex and corruption.

I could go for another balanced budget behind lower tax rates....

Pass a Balanced Budget Amendment.
