I think that if everyone on all sides could see the distinction between business and non-business, and stop pretending to themselves or to others that they are (or even should be) the same, it'd be an awful lot easier to pin down that elusive reality.

Politesub53 -> RE: ProDommes- what do you find as a reasonable rate? (4/21/2010 4:05:40 PM)

I think that in some cases, the line between client and friend blur. It certainly seems that way from what I have read on here over the years. That would mean there is no cut and dry distinction. I suspect some of the pro-Dommes charge less for repeat clients, or for an activity which she enjoys. I also suspect she drops her rates for someone she connects with. Note I said some and not all.

Since the thread is abour rates though, the answer is quite simple. If you wish to play out a fantasy, or exeperience, then you need to pay the going rate. Rates, for anything, are based on supply and demand. If there wasnt a great demand, then the ladies in question wouldnt be able to charge what they do. I still think the Op has nothing to do with rates being to high and everything in getting something for nothing.

Yes, it seems that way to me, too. I see no reason why a pro-domme and her client shouldn't become as friendly with one another over time as, say, a regular plumber and his client. (Or, perhaps a lot more aptly, a therapist and his/her client.) Both sides will be scrupulously polite - and businesslike - about the exchange of money and that'll be the bedrock of their relationship. But, maybe later, there'll be give-and-take. However, I wouldn't mind betting that for every pro-domme-client who complains about what he's paying, there's another who'll refuse to pay less and won't hear of a fee ever being 'waived'. (I recall the film of Cynthia Payne's life - Personal Services - fascinating in that respect. Apparently the first time a prostitute's clients had turned up to defend her in court. That was the epitomy of 'white knight' . . . .)

But, hell, the distinction between business and friendship has to be clear from the outset. For every Kevin I've seen at CM complaining of high pro-domme fees, there has been at least one pro-domme using one or another rationale that tries to convince that the pro-domme/client relationship isn't one of 'service for a fee', but something much exalted. For example, it's not playing a role for a price, it's a 'tribute to a Goddess', and a 'tribute that every Goddess deserves from an inferior male' - or some such inanity. Fine, I say, if that's how pro-domme and client want to see their relationship - but it's counter-productive, I think, if purveyed to people who aren't used to D/s as primarily a business institution and culture.

Some pro-dommes *are* regular plumbers.

MissAsylum -> RE: ProDommes- what do you find as a reasonable rate? (4/21/2010 4:45:31 PM)

i have instances if i see somebody repeatedly, i'll lower my rates, or even throw in a freebie or two, considering that we have built a relationship out of it. i dont see it as a tribute though. you are paying for my dominace- end of story. and i always saw being a ProDomme as "i love doing this, so WHY NOT get paid at the same time?"

PeonForHer -> RE: ProDommes- what do you find as a reasonable rate? (4/21/2010 4:49:54 PM)

Miss A,

I haven't checked your profile, but you haven't used any of the inane lines that I've mentioned in this thread. I don't see why you should give free sessions any more than why I should offer to build someone's wall or fix their electrics for nothing. (And I love doing such stuff, too - believe it or not. ;-))

You do NOT have to apologise for being a businesswoman.

I can give you a great reason that Pros shouldn't become friends with their clients....stalkers. Here's another: when the client sees a blurred difference between client and friend, they often start believing they're entitled to the Pro's personal time, as a friend might. These just start describing the complications from not keeping a clear client/friend boundary.

I wanted to comment on this as a boi who sees the rare exception to this. MsKitty doesn't take on clients that don't interest Her. She sees the work as being paid to dominate or top someone the way She likes to that She wouldn't normally engage in such activity with for whatever reason. Either because She feels no chemistry or they're unattractive to Her or whatever. But She's not gonna agree to a sessions that doesn't stimulate Her as a sadist or Dominant.

These are just my observations of one Pro at work.

Yes - I recall your talking of Ms Kitty's troubles with that stalker a while ago. That was a hideous thing. I remember suggesting then that the long-term answer might be to stay very businesslike. (Not that I know a damned thing about what it's like to be a pro-domme, mind you. Heh.)

Any professional who's at the top of his or her game takes only the 'jobs' that he or she really likes, Jen. Again, I don't see much difference here.

Andalusite -> RE: ProDommes- what do you find as a reasonable rate? (4/22/2010 6:45:33 PM)

It sounds to me like lobo wants pro-Dommes to be regulated by the Department of Agriculture. Surplus sessions with Dommes must be provided as a welfare/unemployment benefit to needy men, and prices must be strictly regulated so that any Domme who wants to charge more must fill out paperwork for the price increase! No woman can have a monopoly on her own pussy!

I can see it now...ebt cards for kinky men who are collecting unemployed/welfare.[8|]

But, let's not forget about the women who are in the same fix...they're "entitled" to a bit o' kink too, ya know.[;)]

No, not the Dept of Agriculture. They might pay dommes not to service men. Maybe a new Dept of Czar could be created.

lobodomslavery -> RE: ProDommes- what do you find as a reasonable rate? (4/23/2010 10:34:10 AM)
