Theme parties are fun LNN. It gives people something to think about, a focus. It also gives focus for you around what to serve, things to do, etc.
And one fun drink thing with beer, soda, wine. When I've given parties, I don't do mixed drinks because then people spend gobs of time dealing with drinks instead of interacting. So for Christmas, I would have a peppermint schnappes punch.... for a boating party, I had life jackets that people could wear and be kind of silly (one guy dressed up as Neptune), I had a toga party and was playing I Claudius on the television while we all drank red wine and fed each other grapes (I don't know what all the gay guys were doing under the table, but that's another story *Wink) ... and at a garden party once, I encouraged a "hats and heels" theme which was quite fun and I got edible flowers to float in the punch and to put around the table.... Oooooo.... Have fun!
