posted where it lands but I am reminded (again) of a Warren Zevon song
Shoulda done,
Shoulda done,
We all cried;

Never thought I'd have to pay so dearly; for what was already mine.............for such a long, long time...........time out of mind..........

Cackling like Woody Woodpecker, and slobbering like Cujo............

I love your profile and have enjoyed your posts here. Wish I could snag the exta points for knowing what that quote means.

Thank you for the reply.

psst.. don't tell anyone else about this.. but you can do a latin to english translation and figure it out. ;) It's not that hard.

If I thought I could trade those points in for something like a new KitchenAid attachment, I'd write him on the other side to collect.

In this lifestyle, do we often make disparaging judgements like "he's a wannabe" simply because someone's desires are not sufficiently similar to ours?

I don't.  If I call someone a wannabe, it's because they're too stupid to hack their way out of a wet paper bag, and their behavior towards the doms or subs they're seeking is little better than what one would expect from a drooling, starved dog following a hot dog vendor.

In my experience, you can be called a 'wannabe' when you turn someone down...

(example; definition of a slut?  Someone who sleeps with everyone...except you)

fogedaboudit...not worth the time or energy to worry about.

A "Wannabe" someone who talks the talk but when pushed to prove it.. cannot.

Wonderful! Thanks

WANNABE (N).: Would-Be-If-They-Could-Be-If-They-Knew-How-And-Had-The-Courage-To-Try-Or-Learn-But-Probably-Will-Never-Be-Because-Their-Ego-Is-Too-Big.

In Perth Western Australia, we used to call them Yuppies........ However i know quite a lot of ex-wannabes who have learned and grown and developed into what they wanted to be.....They controlled their egos and returned to square one and joined the dots...

Just my opinion, but "wannabe" (as in "wannabe submissive") seems the linguistic opposite of "true" (as in "true dominant", etc.)  For the most part, they're terms used to lend an unearned air of objectivity to a largely subjective view; what I personally understand as dominance becomes "true dominance," what I dislike in the bearing or behavior of a submissive becomes "wannabe submission," etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.  What you feel is what you feel; if and when you find the person or people with whom you click, then the relationship you share will be perfectly real for you.

This is exactly what I wanted to say...and so much more articulate. Ah...relief.

LordBennett -> RE: Definition of "wannabe," please? (4/6/2006 6:32:10 PM)

In my opinion, anybody who is seeking is a wannabe and will remain that way until they have found the person for whom they are seeking as any D/s or M/s who have not met before can not be perfect for one another.  I do know I have a Dominant personality but do not consider myself anybody elses Dom until we both have decide that is what we want.  Until then I just wannabe a Dominant or Master.

IronBear -> RE: Definition of "wannabe," please? (4/6/2006 7:04:50 PM)

Bennett, we shall have to agree to disagree... For my reasons go and read my definition of a Wanmnabe.....  [;)]

acctonthelook -> RE: Definition of "wannabe," please? (4/7/2006 12:25:30 PM)

Zebra, anyone without experience can be labeled.  It's only you that can be true when u meet the right Dom for you.  Like me I'm still looking and I'm not settling just to get this experience so I can say..."oh, now I NOT a wannabe" to prove to someone my wants and needs or give justification to who I am inside.

I had a physical encounter with a Dom from Collarme that has become my good friend now.  Though we did not meet through this site, he has given me more than most men in my life have.  He's given me the physical pleasure (though not sex), the mentoring about the lifestyle, how he sees me, offers me advice and so much more.  He never puts me down, only lifts me up.  He has changed my life in so many ways.  Just because we did not have "sex or bondage play" does that make me a wannabe?  Who cares what others think.  It's my feelings to myself that matter.  Also he tells me that being submissive does not mean I have no personality and in fact I have a right to that personality.

Sounds like to me that Dom was just not right for you.  Keep looking.  My friend is legally married, in a D/s relationship and was actually just looking for couple play when we met. His business takes him away for long periods so I am still waiting for his return home for the "play" part.  LOL

Good Luck and Don't Settle for anything you are not totally comfortable in or that "clicks" as you said.

quote:

So, my questions: How does someone who is sincerely seeking but doesn't have all the answers *not* act like a wannabe? What are the traits of a wannabe?

To question 1: By being yourself.
To question 2: Not being yourself, but some cookie-cut stereotype.

If you do the first, some people will still find fault. Ignore them.
