Ask real to explain how every news feed of the impact of the second plane into the world trade center was faked.

Well explain to me how both buildings come down as if it had been exploded bottom up. Did the base steel somehow just melt and the whole building came straight down?

Shrugs, Just asking for a solid explanation with real science and engineering. To date, none has been given. A 3 hour burn brings 100 stories to the ground? How.

Many things happen that defy explanation until later when scientific understanding catches up.  It may be that what seems completely implausible is fully plausible once we understand the mechanisms at work.  For many reasons I do not believe that the 911 disaster was an orchestrated event.

That doesn't mean that I still don't believe in some aspects of some conspiracy theories.  Even though I posted above as a reformed conspiracist, I still hold on to some beliefs that might be considered by some to be nothing but conspiracy nuttiness.  The difference is that I evaluate the information critically and if I feel that the "conspiracy" theory holds more weight than the standard explanation, I will go with conspiracy.  I just tend not to believe there is a great global puppet master/s pulling strings.

I believe there are those groups that know how to take advantage of a situation like 911 and use it to their benefit to grow more wealthy and powerful.  I also believe there are individuals who might turn a blind eye or even help an event like 911 to proceed in order to capitalize.  But I believe these are unconnected individual decisions made by each person/group to do something in their own best interests.

TN, I would agree with you. However, I am simply not ready to drop all discussion of topics simply because they make some uncomfortable. I know there are those that use "theories" in order to use people and to make money off of them.

Dom,

We had some heated threads over 9-11, building 7, and such.

People might call you tin foil hat.   (gasp)

I've been called worse. Still, the question remains and no one ever gives an explanation except....sort on the lines of TN above.

Truth is stranger, and very often far more brutal, than fiction.  And passivity toward authority has done far more harm than suspicion.  So what's the great investment in "debunking" the suspicions of our fellow man?  If anything, wouldn't it be better to debunk blind faith and passivity? The suspicions of the masses, even if "not perfectly logical," might serve to curb power.  After all, I don't think the great waves of social change ever occurred because the masses were "logical" or particularly "well informd," but more because, finally, the masses reached the limits of their passivity.

The SPLC began when Morris Dees recognized the lucrative potential of the '72 McGovern campaign's mailing list. Exactly when the SPLC jumped the shark has long been a subject of debate, but it was certainly at some point prior to their identification of columnist Don Feder (!) as a menace to society. Potok's ironic quote appears in a story that portrays Michelle Malkin as a menace to society, and reasonable people have begun to notice the Potokian pattern. Basically, if you're a conservative and you haven't been denounced by Mark Potok yet, you need to stop goofing off and get to work. I've been on Potok's Menace To Society List since May 2000, when I published a feature article based on an interview with Kansas author Laird Wilcox:
"There is an anti-racist industry entrenched in the United States that has attracted bullying, moralizing fanatics, whose identity and livelihood depend upon growth and expansion of their particular kind of victimization."
That quote is from Wilcox's book, The Watchdogs, which among other things explains what he describes as the "links-and-ties" method by which the SPLC and similar outfits create the false impression of ironclad connections between groups and individuals based on incidental associations. Wilcox is himself a veteran researcher of extremist "fringe" movements, whose records comprise The Wilcox Collection On Contemporary Political Movements at the University of Kansas Library. Unlike Morris Dees, however, Wilcox doesn't have the McGovern donor list or an ax-grinding agenda against Republicans, so he never gets quoted by the Washington Post.

The bigger they are the harder they fall.

The average fire rating for most buildings is around 1.5 to 2 hours no? It boggles the mind that people here think there isn't a good reason for that.

Considering that the news feeds clearly show the buildings collapsing from the top down, as floors pancaked down on one another.

I really don't care much what creates conspiracy theorists. In the coal mine of free speech, they make excellent canaries. I like having a few around.
