quote:
ORIGINAL: Dustyn "Hmmmm I think that if that engineer gave a versatile wrench turner all the parts to build that plane, that wrench turner can have ideas of his own and just as easily take it all to his fabrication shop and build a boat." My step father has psent hte last 20+ years in the Air Force as a JEM. He's worked on everything from T-37s to B-1s and B-2s. I'd have to ask him to make sure, but I think the only engines that he has never had his fingers in are the newer ones for the Raptor, but then again, he's setting policies now, not just merely following them. He'll be the first one to admit that while he can probably fix just about anything, and trust me, he's fixed engines that were screwed up from strange things, he would have no clue how to go about designing one. He understand sthe principles of how the engines work and how the parts go together, but there is very little chance that he could create one from scrap. Oh, and by the by... QUITTING SMOKING BLOWS GOATS!!!!!!!! *grumble* I know someone, who is close to me, who can work on computers, do any plumbing, electrical work, landscape, backhoe, carpentry, read or create blueprints, build a whole house from top to bottom, knows all the stars and constillations, surpurb at math, has common sense, work with metal, work on cars, build a motorcycle, sculpt, etc, etc. and he only had schooling on how to do one of those minor things, the others he's capable of doing he learned on his own and looking at manuals but, where are we going with this? Wasn't your original quote about planes a metaphor? How did we get to your step father? LOL
