you have insisted that the black community doesnt get the same fair shakes as the rest... that nothing is equal. its equal as long as you have money. thats the dividing line for any race. but that doesnt fit into your scenario of being able to whine. as long as money is the deciding factor, you have no excuse above or beyond anyone else who is poor. you become like every other poor person... and that doesnt seem to sit well with you. you have to be more down trodden, more abused, more neglected, and because of your skin color, so you can feel your righteous indignation

What MLK went through was injustice, on the base, moral level. Being pushed to the back of a bus because of your skin color. being told what schools you can attend, what bathrooms you can use, what water fountains you can drink from................... those are injustices no one should have ever tolerated.

Is it perfect now? Nope. would you prefer to go back to the way it was?

The race in american is money or no money. If you got money, color doesnt matter. If you dont have money, color is the excuse.

If you believe the above is true then I would offer you a challange.
Read the book called "Black Like Me".
Follow the directions for chemically changing your skin color and curling your hair.
Then go to the mall and go about your daily life but not with your friends go to places where you tazzygirl are not known.
Do this for one year.
It could possibly change your mind.

Thompson, you can do that for just about anything... being fat... being disabled... being native american... being asian.

The point is you have to play the hand you are dealt. How you play that hand makes all the difference. you can either settle back and whine and carry on about how things are unfair and as a result they will enevr get any better... or you can work your ass off to make a better life for yourself. Unlike the MLK days, a better life is more of a reality. No one said it would be easy... its only easy for the "white and rich". The rest of us have to work for what we get.

No one said there wasnt still work to be done. But to sit around and whine and blame others for your lack of "networking" to get ahead just doesnt cut it with me.

I don't think MLK would be 'cool with' either this characterization of his views or, more importantly, an America in which money defines your social worth.

No, what I know of MLK is that he is a lot more critical than you of the social reality that money defines. He opposed the Vietnam War, and this probably got him killed -- you really think his legacy is getting black people a little bit of respect?

The facts are that this young man has said nothing that MLK did not say yet you characterize him as a whiner and go on with your horatio alger stories.
From your profile you seem to know about the biases against native ameicans and full size people...my point is that those are but minor impediments compared to being black which is noticible from a block away.
The pics you have in your profile look like most any white woman it is only because you have told me that I know that you have the Souix heritage.
Until and unless you take my challange you will never know what it is even remotely like to be black in this country. The upside of the challange is that when it is over you are white again...and if you choose you can go on ignoring the obvious.

Are you saying the educational system available today is the same system when MLK was alive?
That racial discrimination is still rampant and legal?
That despite the color of your skin, if you have enough money, you still cannot buy what you want?
There there are still only white officers in the military and any otrher race is seen as inferior there?

These are just a drop on a pin head of the differences between "now" and "then".

As far as my pic, i inherited my irish mother's skin color (dammit lol) the bone structure and body type are definitely native.

My two cents, my take on this tennis match here. DYB is not whining, name-calling and whatever yall have said about him. He is not racist or whatever else pejorative yalls said about him here.

Notice the bolded bits. Why is this either or? Why not take an afternoon or a few minutes and bawl your ol eyes out about the inequality, in justice, cruelty, hard-headed imprints buried so deep it can feel like swimming in toxic sludge round here.
