LookieNoNookie -> I would just FUCKING appreciate it if..... (4/28/2010 6:29:19 PM)

My doctor would respond to my emails within 3 fucking days.

I know they're busy...I'm busy.

I have his pager and cell phone...I'm not gonna bother the dude...he's got a lot of shit going on...but an email...how fucking difficult is that to respond to?

Ya know?

Just a quick response.  Ain't much....just a quick hello...."howya doin'?"

KatyLied -> RE: I would just FUCKING appreciate it if..... (4/28/2010 6:32:29 PM)

If he is thinking of you, he will contact you.

pahunkboy -> RE: I would just FUCKING appreciate it if..... (4/28/2010 6:33:39 PM)

...the platform that I use - they lost 1 or 2.   Sending it to who knows where.  Upon talking to the nurse she found it and redirected it to the proper spot.

If you need to talk to your doctor, CALL!!!

domiguy -> RE: I would just FUCKING appreciate it if..... (4/28/2010 6:54:44 PM)

Do doctors even do the "how ya doin?" thang anymore?

He may get inundated with emails, it may not be bugging him if you leave him a message (even at the office) that you have sent him an email on such and such date and can he look at it or give you a call.

I get well over 100 emails a day at work and my boss gets even more, she has a bad habit of reading them on her iphone and then forgetting to send them to me or respond to same. So i make a habit of asking people to copy ME on anything they send to her and she usually copies me on responses she makes so that people hopefully will reply to all. ANd together -- we usually hit everyone within a day as i print out the ones i can't answer or she needs to address personally -- which isn't many, or i simply answer them because i have the answer off the top of my head. The same thing goes with her voicemail. Hell even MY emails to her get lost in the many she receives per day and her's sometimes get lost in mine that i have to make sure i double check my email daily and i check hers to see if she has read it. Many times i need to remind her i may need an answer lol even if she has read it.

So maybe, you can send it to him but cc his nurse or admin or secretary.

It may not be a matter of he hasn't gotten to it, it simply is a matter he may have read it and forgot or got distracted and your email got lost in 2192819328132132132198383 others.

Be proactive instead of pissed off and yeah many times email really isn't the best way of communication.

I hate to disagree, but I must. I can't stand it when the phone rings. It is usually for Woman and recently I have declared that I am changing the phone number. Now I have already said it but soon I will use it when someone calls from the same number within ten minutes. It is MY phone and I will pick it up when I damnwell please and I will say "Woman, it's them, they are wiping their ass and need your advice".  And I will not have it tied up.

Anything that is just "Hey, how ya doin'" should be limited to twice a year. Change phone numbers, call. If I change mine I will call. If everything is business as usual then screw it.

The advantage of email is that it is not real time. You compose, they read and then respond when and if they decide. It is entirely possible that a busy person might relegate responding to such emails on Sunday evenings or something. And if so maybe someone has a real problem. If they are a good doctor, real and good, dedicated, all that, something like this might just draw alot of their attention, and I think rightly so.

And there are so many other things, an email could be misdirected to a spam directory, or simply lost. And nowadays could get cught in a spam filter, or even be deemed to contain a virus, by your ISP or his. Or you could have a virus, or your ISP's server could have a virus.

And all this about email and ISPs, how much time does he have to respond to simple greetings ?

IMO you made too much out of this. You know I hardly ever answer my phone, well any of them.

Youse humans are addicted to communication.

T

ETA : I see where I screwed that up but..... oh well.

What a loser to get blocked by your own doctor. Maybe he just gave you a time out...You have probably been "moderated."

All of your emails show up at your docs office as....[Awaiting Approval]

edited to add....[imho]

divi -> RE: I would just FUCKING appreciate it if..... (4/29/2010 6:37:40 AM)

fyi..
At work when I do answer the phones I make sure the Dr gets all the messages or the office manager gets them. Unless they are important, urgent or in regards to putting more moolah in his pocket he isn't returning them. His desk is a mess and hes a slob.

So I hate to say it you should sometimes say its important just to get to talk to the Dr. I would advise don't this too often cause you will be put on the pain in the ass list.

Whatever happened to the old time doctors?

When I was a boy the doctor came to my house when I was sick…the same day he was called.

As I got older the office fee was 8$ to $10 a visit and if you were sick and didn’t have an appointment the doctor would say come on in we’ll get you in when we can. Yes I may have to wait an hour but they got me in the same day I called.

NOW if I get sick and call right when the office opens it is 4 days before I can get in to see him. If making an appointment for a consultation it is 2 to 4 weeks. Usually I end up describing my symptoms and being prescribed over the phone.

It would be different if it was just a particular doctor but it has been the same for the last three I’ve tried out.

I do understand the dedication of doctors I’ll bet they very seldom get a weekend off without someone calling but I wonder what has changed in the last 30 years.

What has changed? Insurance companies are running things.

My current doctor does get us in same day when need be, but the search for her was not an easy one.

reynardfox -> RE: I would just FUCKING appreciate it if..... (4/29/2010 12:27:58 PM)

How can he respond if you have his pager and his cell phone? How?

ShaharThorne -> RE: I would just FUCKING appreciate it if..... (4/30/2010 2:11:19 AM)

sometimes the doctor is busy assisting other pateints. Just better to walk in the office (or brought in on a gurney). I had an appointmentfor an early appt but I got stunk in Dallas, so I had my mom cancel for me and pencil me in at 1pm the same day.

Good thing too. I had caught pneumonia again. Luckly it was the first stage so I can do antibiotics and treatment on the machine.

Meanwhile,he had me reffered to a specialist for the fissure. Votes for the colonrectal guy give will start right now.

First...you are part of the shit. Ok...that didn't come out quite right, but a doctors responsibility is to his patients, of which you are one.

Do not e-mail. Call his office and speak to a human. Tell them why you are calling and that you expect a response. If there is no return call, call again and let them know you DO require a response within 24 hrs. Perhaps the doctor himself will not call, but his staff can certainly relay the message.

Do not be passive. You are dealing with your health. If a doctor cannot respond to the concerns of his patients, you need a new doctor.

Peg...i hear you, but honestly, if a doctor allows an insurance company to dictate when/how he responds to his patients, he is not a doctor...he is a business man. I would not just walk away from him, i would run.

*sigh*...i wish i could argue that it has become so in lot of cases. I can't.

But...there are still health care providers out there who are in the profession because it is their calling. They are hard to find, at times, but so worth the effort.
