I hate flossing, maybe it's cause I don't do it very often, but when ever I do floss, it always makes my gums hurt for days and sometimes makes an abscess form. Even now, after a good cleaning,  flossing is still hurting my gums.

And no my gums are not currently not still sore from the cleaning just when I floss. And yes I am doing it the correct way the dentist showed me.

Instead of thrice brushing, try twice and floss nightly. Flossing is of utmost importance to avoid gum disease. Or at least lessen it.

Flossing is super important.  Did they mention gingivitis to you?  If you have it (or the starting stages) its what is making flossing so uncomfortable and or causing bleeding.  I hate flossing too.. but it really is so important, and if you do floss regularly you'll find that in a few weeks if will stop being painful and uncomfortable since your gums will no longer be inflamed since they're clean.  The stuff under the guml-ine that flossing gets can actually be so much more harmful then what you can see/feel and can get with a toothbrush.

TFB:

You can use a proxy brush instead of flossing. Since your gums bleed, start with the one with skinny bristles and graduate upwards. You may still bleed for a week or so, but some find the proxy brush more comfortable than flossing.

Absolutely! Now if you're flossing that much too you'll be rockin!  Soft toothbrushes and Dont push too hard with the brush, that can cause gum recession.  :)

DameBruschetta, No, I don't have Gingavitus. It could be because I just don't do it enough?

mbmbn  What is a proxy brush?

Your teeth won't be whiter from brushing more than once a day. Instead, floss those chunks out of your teeth.

And...since we are on the topic, I gotta say something about whitening strips. It's creepy when girls have teeth that are whitened. I don't like it.

I don't care about white teeth, I care more about plack, and tarter build up, and that awful scuzzy feeling that teeth in need of brushing gets lol.

And I don't think teeth whitening is creepy, but I do think unless your teeth are a horrible shade of brown or yellow or something, that teeth whitening is just pure vanity, unless you're a model or something.

You can pick them up at any pharmacy, Walmart, K-mart etc. I'll link you up, TFB. The long handles ones are best, easier to use and get more " guck " out from between your teeth.  It's a  proxabrush, I messed up on name.

I floss after eating because my teeth are crooked and I know there will be food stuck between the teeth.

I will begin whiteing them when the last cavity is yanked out and the last canine is filled.
