Invisigoth0o -> Looking for labret piercing advice... (5/2/2010 1:13:56 PM)

I recently treated myself to a new labret piercing as a late birthday gift, Im being really careful with it and its healing ok, no problems with aftercare or any of that. Ive had the piercing before but had to remove it due to a hospital stay that occurred not even 2 weeks after I got it, Im getting used to it again, very slowly, I keep biting the post of the stud, but once it heals I can get a shorter bar.

Anyways, what I came here to ask is exactly how long will it be before I am able to give oral again? I keep finding conflicting answers. I realize everyone heals differently, so maybe I am just asking for some feedback from people who have the same kind of experiences with piercings. Any advice about technique is appreciated too, Im wondering how much this is going to effect my ability in the kissing/oral department...

I should mention that I have a very strong oral fixation, it isn't just a sexual thing, I am 23 and sometimes (as embarrassing as it is to admit) I still suck my thumb, its a comfort/safety thing as well as a sexual thing, it helps me feel centered somehow, especially with being allowed to give oral sex.

As a body piercer  I recommend you wait at least a month until the tissue fully closes around the piercing.  To speed the process, we recommend you rinse several times a day, especially after eating, with sea salt water to keep it clean and debris free. Brushing your teeth frequently also helps the healing process.  The pattern? Keeping the area as clean as possible (the human mouth is filled with bacteria more so than that of a dog). Need I tell you not to smoke if you do?

It's a problem when people get any oral piercings and right away want to kiss or have oral sex.  My advice to people like that is to NOT get a mouth piercing at all, if you can't control your fixation.

It's up to you to take the advice you asked for (which you should have asked your piercer, not strangers online) or not.  Be advised though, if you do perform oral and have a problem with your piercing, well, you were warned.

Oh..and I just saw that you still suck your thumb? I hope you have the common sense to wash your hands first.  People don't think that touching a phone, computer, doorknob, shopping cart, etc. has harmful bacteria waiting to find a host.  They do.

Yes, I wash my hands frequently, I don't suck my thumb habitually, and it doesn't happen every day, but I would still like to break myself of the need altogether. As for my piercing I am following the aftercare instructions I was given, I did ask about how long the healing might take and was told 3 weeks,  after doing some looking around online for stories of peoples piercing experiences I noticed that some sites state anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, up to several months or longer.

I don't intend to do anything with my mouth that would hinder the healing process, Im not about to ruin something I payed for because I can't control myself.  I can see how things could go horribly wrong very quickly,  and I appreciate your advice.
