Question to Ponder #5 - 4/6/2006 2:21:08 PM

I have a great appreciate for music in my life, and try to surround myself with it at all times, even if it only my atrocious singing.  The music I listen to serves one of two purposes in my life:

1. To match my mood
2. To change my mood

I was wondering if there are any songs that any of you enjoy listening to before, during or after a scene to help you connect with the emotions you know are coming or are rampaging through you at that time.

For me, when I go into my manic states, I tend to get very self destructive and for lack of a better term, submissive in nature.  My usual song list on WinAmp at those times includes:

Sanctified - NIN
Reptile - NIN
An Innocent Man - Billy Joel
Heaven - Warrant
Clown - Switchbalde Symphony

An odd mix, to be sure, but they just seem fitting songs.

On the flip side of that:

Gypsy Road - Cinderella
Superbeast - White Zombie
Metal Militia - Metallica
Get the **** Out - Skid Row
Bang Bang - Rammstein

Any opinions on this concept, or am I just a freak that likes music way too much?

Nope.. you're not a freak as in enjoying music too much.. but you definately are showing your age with your selections there.

I like music but I have a need for silence as well.  I concentrate better and am more able to focus on myself and my parter.

Music is a wonderful thing, especially as background to a scene.  Normally I like modern stuff at the heavy/angry/violent end of the spectrum but for some reason when "Ride of the Valkyries" shows up in the mix my wife knows we are about to go HEAVY.

Well, imagine that. The first mental image that Wagner inspires is from Apocalypse Now. LOL

Don't remind me on the age concept.  Already finding white hairs on my temples and in my beard.  Not to mention that people I went to high school with have kids that want me to chaperone their junior high dances.  That is just... wrong. LOL

I was working with people who were born in the 80's. To me it just seemed so odd that they were out of diapers and walking and talking and everything!

The club at which I play has music going most of the time, and I've developed a fondness for dance music and other techno during scenes.  I do have a playlist on my machine that amuses me while I'm cleaning my place for one of my Daddy's visits:
  1. I Wanna Be Your Dog - Ascii Disko
  2. This S*it Will Fcuk You Up - Combichrist
  3. Enjoy the Abuse - Combichrist
  4. Black on Black - Diablo
  5. Hurt Myself - Dark Lotus
  6. We Danced - Black Lotus
  7. A Question of Time - Depeche Mode
  8. Stripped - Depeche Mode
  9. Dressed in Black - Depeche Mode
  10. Home - Depeche Mode
  11. It's No Good - Depeche Mode
  12. Head Like a Hole - DEVO
  13. I Touch Myself - Divinyls
  14. Room 101 - Eurythmics
  15. #1 Crush - Garbage
  16. Cherry Pie (I Need a Freak) - Insane Clown Posse
  17. Panties - Insane Clown Posse
  18. Play With Me - Insane Clown Posse
  19. (I Love it When You) Call Me Names - Joan Armatrading
  20. Hanky Panky - Madonna
  21. Closer - NIN
  22. Pure Morning - Placebo
  23. Every You Every Me - Placebo
  24. SOS - Rihanna
  25. Paint It Black - Rolling Stones
  26. Exterminate Ahhihilate Destroy - Rotersand
  27. Play With Me - Thompson Twins
  28. Come to Daddy - Tumor
  29. Joy - VNV Nation
Come to think of it, I've got a few more songs that I could add to that list.

I pick different types of music from your selections, however I *do* use music to ramp me up to a scene, or even just a romantic night with Sir.  I am a music freak, and am constantly adding to my iPod (1600 songs and growing).  I think that the choice of music does have to be specific to my mood.  Most people, when looking at my music collection, realize what a truly eclectic and faceted personality I have -- it's evident in the music a person chooses to live with.

I am a metalhead and will go for some good death metal. during a scene. good bands will go through several transistions during the songs, that way if the sub is not familiar with that song they dont know what is coming.

I don't see Hard Rock, Metal, Rap as ones I would want at the time. Got to have something that matches the thump of the paddle..

Before and after a scene I wouldn't really say that there is music I would choose.

During a scene, I enjoy M's selection of the Bram Stoker's Dracula movie soundtrack, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and then a bunch of stuff that is rather eclectic.

I like to listen to Ani Difranco, punk (No Doubt, Bowling for Soup, others), Hurt (the version done by Johnny Cash), the NIN Pretty Hate Machine album, some of the Lords of Acid music, Concrete Blonde, and others.

When flogging I tend to dance with the flogger in my hand, so I like music that I am familiar with so that I can use the music to orchestrate my scene. I enjoy working with familiar music to do rhythmic caning also.
