WyrdRich -> Question on Masochism #1 (4/6/2006 4:02:03 PM)

I've discovered that when I bottom, there are some things (big, heavy, thudding floggers, some forms of CBT) that my body doesn't translate as pain, just very powerful and enjoyable sensations.  Other things don't do anything for me but hurt.

Is it common to prefer one "flavor" of pain over another?  My wife is much more of a masochist than I am and believes, "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that sting."

For some, yes it is. For others, no. I like the feel of a whip, and yet, I do not like needles or knives at all. One feels good, the other just hurts. Just go with what you are comfortable with and don't try to push the other.

For me I'm a fan of *thuddy* toys more so than *stingy* ones, give me a dragon or singapore prison cane over one of those thin whippity things anyday

You begin by saying "when I bottom", so I assume you are a switch? I don't read all profiles...way too boring!
You are about as much as a Masochist as my son, who hates to get his assed whipped (but deserves it constantly!)
So you enjoy some light pain....whoop..de doo.... don't we all?
When you want to be dragged by your hair across the floor, beat, because I can....and then humiliated and take every physical aspect of your being as I totally Dominate you and your wife.....you can then say, with conviction,  "I am a Masochist and my name is......"
Keep cuming back...if you truly want to be beat!

Thanks Fastlane.  That was about as helpful as a fart in a spacesuit.

Yes, I am a switch.  And I'm painfully aware that I'm not much of a masochist (Bad pun, go to the corner!)  These are things I deal with and would like to have a better understanding of.

Everyone's wired differently. Ambrosia for some is moldy cheese for another. Don't worry about it. There's no normal in anything.

Yeah everyone is different, you can even like different things on different parts of your body or vice versa. For example I love being caned on my back and ass, I hate it on my calves.

Also different moods and atmospheres can effect how you translate the play through sensation. So in one situation one day you could really like something and another situation on another day the very same impliment could have you saying "get that the fuck away from me" (not that i say that, but you get my point).

Ive got a good example there, typcially I would say I really dont enjoy breast play, you can do whatever you like to other parts of me but leave my breasts alone.......but......there have been a few times, just a few.....where I have had an incling as to why other women really enjoy it.

For some, yes.  I am a pain slut, but I still think that there such things as 'bad pain'.  Not all pain is good.  You might just register certain things as pleasurable, while others as pain.  No biggy.  We all have our likes.

I don't have anything useful to add to your original question that others havent mentioned, I just wanted to comment on this. I don't see why it matters how much pain you like or whether you like all types. A masochist likes pain and gets sexual pleasure from it. That doesn't mean you need to be extreme or like every single painful act, very few people are wired that way. If you identify as a masochist, then that's what you are and other people have no place to tell you that you're wrong because you don't do things their way.
So good for you for having intelligent questions designed to help your understanding.
(also 'as helpful as a fart in a spacesuit' made me laugh out loud, thanks :) )

pain is a wierd thing, and as has been mentioned, there is no model of "normal" masochism that includes only specific "flavors" of pain.  this slave has been labelled a masochist by herself and others---not always in a sexual context, but this slave is definitely wired sexually for masochism.

the first time this slave was called a masochist was when she requested NO anesthesia during unmentionable-birth, not once, but three times.  this slave in no way got orgasmic from the experience, but this slave WANTED the whole experience, pain and all--and was very satisfied with the choice.  does a migraine bring this slave close to ecstasy?  hell no, but that same intensity of pain, delivered by Master's hand or other implement to this slave's crotch, breasts, and/or ass IS another story
