Ill start off by asking how many others are agnostic or atheist out there? Im guessing in the fetish world there is quite a few. Myself...I think the bible is a great story, but i dont believe it. I mean who seriously believes noah built an ark to hold two of every animal? Come on!!! we couldn't even do that today. Imagine with hand tools? Part the red sea? jonah and the whale? tower of babylon? God created the heaven and earth? what about themillions of other galaxies, who made them? The bible doesnt talk about dinosaurs. Some people put so much faith in the bible, but keep this in mind. When they wrote that book they still thought the earth was flat. How many of their other beliefs can we debunk? I dont mean to offend anyone of any religion. Id just like to get the facts straight.

Not so sure you should write off the arc theory yet.

http://www.wwaytv3.com/has_noah039s_ark_been_found_turkish_mountaintop/04/2010

The bible contains alot of historical accuracies. I agree its a fantastic story... but there is alot of truth in that little book as well.

The distance between thumb and another finger to the elbow.

So, the Egyptian cubit is between 52.3 and 52.4cm in length.

The Roman and Greek cubit (natural cubit) is about 45cm or 18 inches.

The English cubit is about a yard or 90 cm or 36 inches.

So. . .  can you be a bit more specific, Bill Cosby?

How many Noah's Arks have been found now? Last I heard the Turkish ark scam was a thriving industry.

Dad was agnostic...basically show him everything and he would analyze it completely.

I am paganistic...I just take everything and show you the deepest meaning.

Both of my brothers are wierd...I never could figure them out.

To me, the bible is a story written by men Several parts are missing and no one is able to understand it.

I go to bed now...got a bus to catch later for Austin.

How many is a "quite"?  I know that few = 3.  So how many quites in a few?  My math gives me the number, 1,252,098.  Does that help you out?

Myself...I think the bible is a great story,

Which part?  I mean, there are an awful lot of stories in the bible.  There are many that I do not think are so great.  So, which ones do you find "great"?

but i don't believe it.

Which "it"?  You know, you are not being very specific.

HA!  I did not think that you had read it.  It was 7 of clean animals and 2 of the unclean ones.

Sweetie, you are not offensive.  You just need to look up the definition of 'miracle'.

Why do so many people believe in only one God and that that God has to be the one (or more) that was depicted in one of the Bibles?

I am not an atheist.  My God bears some resemblance to one of the Gods talked about in the version of the bible but also resembles the Great Spirited told by the Lacota nation or even the Orisha and many others.

So what the fuck am I?  I don't believe the Bible (any one of them) is a literal "word of God" but I am certain that God exists.

And what the fuck does fetish have to do with it?  We're not that special.

I believe in God. I believe God can be known; of course, it all depends on what you believe God is.

I do not have a religion, as I do not believe God has a religion; unless you count ‘truth unto self” as a religion. I do not know what that ‘makes me’.

I believe that a large number of agnostics and atheist are more religious then they realize, as a good number of them seem to religiously believe, one must be ‘of a religion’, to believe in God.

As far as the bible goes, I suspect it holds some fact, some embellishment, some truth, some lies; therefore, I only use it as a reference, and not as the final answer.

It would take pages to explain why and would be off topic.  I'm not expecting anyone else to agree with me or be me.  I am not an evangelist.  I believe each person needs to find their own peace.

But on topic, it is my opinion that anyone who looks to the bible as a scientific source or commentary is foolish.  One needs to know by whom the old testament was written, and for whom and to what purpose.  It is a collection of stories designed to provide some sense of unity to a group of runaway slaves.  It contains oral traditions of many different peoples.  While the jewish bible starts with Genesis it actually begins with Exodus.

Trying to reconcile biblical stories to scientific evidence would be like reading Moby Dick to study marine biology, in my opinion.  Doesn't mean either book doesn't hold some truths or have deeper insights to offer.  Both are worth reading.  Neither are good for skimming.

And by the way..... it's the Tower of Babel  not the tower of babylon.  That was starting to bug me.

How would it be off-topic on a thread about religion?

I'm not trying to be contentious but it doesn't make sense to me that someone can say they are certain about something that is impossible to prove.

But you are being contentious and you love to badger me about this and I won't play your game.

You first asked why I am certain and now you ask me for proof.  There are a plethora of things in science of which scientists are certain but have not yet proved.  Evolution from amino acids to modern human... Go on.  Give me proof.  There isn't any direct proof but it is something of which we can be fairly certain.

Something more simple.  I am certain that my Master the most wonderful man on this planet.  How could I prove this to you or anyone else?  And why would I ever be asked to?

Its "Lakota" Nation, not Lacota that was starting to bug me. Im familiar with native american spirtituality, and Im a big fan. "What the *uck does fetish have to do with it?" Well in my experience so far the people of the fetish world seem open minded, intelectual, and free spirited. So I was curious to get everyones atake on religion. You say "We're not that special" I disagree. I think we are special. We are all being honest with ourselves and doing something we like. I think we are sort of enlightend.

No, I don't love to badger but you posted a controversial statement and now are getting upset when I asked you to explain it.

There is direct proof of evolution but too many do not take the time to investigate that proof and then make the erroneous assumption that it is somehow based on scientific "faith" when the two terms are contradictory.

As for your last statement it really has no relevance to the discussion.  What you believe about someone you have feelings for is not remotely related to being certain there is a God.

The problem with the bible is that many read it, but few truly understand it.

I agree with you eyesopened and Aylee.

This part made me LMFAO. I loved it. It's perfect.

God created the heaven and earth?

Art class
quote:

what about the millions of other galaxies, who made them?

God's grandparents.
quote:

The bible doesn't talk about dinosaurs.

Are you SURE? Maybe those were the pesky giants.

A quote I once heard is "There is never an atheist in a fox hole."

and another quote

"Every man, women or child gets to God by his own road."

I don't believe that eyesopened should share her story with you because it's personal. Her road to God is a personal journey. Why should she share her story with you when all your going to do is pick at it and try to pull it apart? You weren't a part of her life. Did you witness anything in her life? Nope. Did you witness anything from the bible? Nope. So my guess is your still going to be the same unbeliever you are now... just without wasting her time.

If you want to learn this lesson your going to have to do it on your own or with a pastor of your choosing and see where the journey takes you.

If you want to understand the bible this helped me I recommend reading a book by Florence Scovel Shinn called "The Game Of Life & How to Play It". Here you can get it for free http://books.google.com/books?id=_2wxvb4ieeYC&dq=Florence+Scovel+Shinn&printsec=frontcover&source=an&hl=en&ei=7EPpS4T0EaHAMvjJpOoJ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=13&ved=0CFMQ6AEwDA#v=onepage&q&f=false
Also this book by Rosemary Ellen Guiley called Ask the Angels The Practical Guide to Bringing Angelic Presence Into Your Life. Read and reread the Angel Meditations until you understand. I was just listening to Jewel's first album Pieces of You. Have a listen and I do mean listen closely to the words. You might learn something.

Hope this helps.

God Bless
