I'm so sorry you are suffering Holly, but so glad it wasn't worse. I haven't been around a lot and didn't know you had fallen. I hope things improve quickly! I used to have all sorts of links but my vista hell lost them all. Years of research I may have somewhere on this external hard drive but cannot figure out how to access yet. If I get to them I will let you know.

But until then there is a site that used to be hosted by a University of neurology but it seems they have changed. They talked about it changing but it seems the guy that took care of their message board section is still around. The message boards seem to be the same. They had all sorts of things that would help and even chats at one time. They were a major help to me at one time. The boards are the first link.

I have read that it can take about three weeks for the blood that has settled to disperse. I would assume it could take longer for some people. I really don't know this one as most I know with this didn't fair so well as you have. I had a great site for this but cannot find it, but the link in the uk may help with that.

Please, please be careful of what you eat. Many foods can thin the blood and things you would never expect. Even some vitamins, herbs and such can. So if you take supplements, check them out before you continue using them. (I have found one doctor in all the doctors that mentioned food or supplements, so you have to do that yourself.)  Most over the counter pain medications thin the blood but Ibuprofen is the best to take out of those as it thins the blood less. I did best with oxycodone and didn't get the dizziness that codeine can cause. Maybe they could switch you to another medication.

As for short term memory loss, you know I have been there with Charlie. Of course you don't have as much damage or problem with it but it does improve, it is just a matter of time and doing things in a pattern. There was a time I left for simply healing and then the brain challenges were moved into place. I just woke up and my brain isn't all the best yet, but I did odd things, things no one suggested to help with the creating long term memories from short term memories he didn't even have! How to interpret the short term was in dealing with the long term. It sounds backwards, but that is what I learned and what helped Charlie get from ten second memory to now, remembering one day to the next and even things from months ago.

With my personal concussions, I still don't have any memory from them. A tape recorder helps better than post it notes for me. But I kill those. So simple patterns in every day life help but I still forget. We call them Lucy moments and laugh for the most part. The less stressed you are, the better, so laugh and exercising the brain will help the short term memory improve and that has helped both Charlie and I. Hang in there!

I am so sorry this happened to you, Holly. I don't have anything constructive to add, but I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and hope you get better soon.

No experience with head injuries however if you're on codeine, that could explain the dizziness. It's a well known side effect.
true. i have never had a pain killer cause this type of dizziness, but then again i have never taken any with a head injury before. Thanks Celeste [:)]

good advice, LadyH...i am trying to retrain my mind a little, but it is so hard to do. Right now i am relying on sticky notes and alarms (i set an alarm/timer for when something needs to come out of the oven along with a sticky note as to why the alarm is going off). As you said, it takes time [:)]

I've found with headaches that an ice pack helps a lot. No longer than 15-20 minutes at a time. A bag of frozen vegetables can also serve the purpose
Thanks BlueEyes...frozen peas make the best ice packs [:)]

Lockit...how typical of you to suggest laughter as a healer...such a positive woman you are [:)]
What you went through, both personally and with Charlie, makes me realize just how lucky i am that this whole mess will be over soon.
