damn, i heard that it gave you awful dreams- but i never believed they'd be THAT bad...

Arpig -> RE: no smoking patch (5/13/2010 3:28:54 AM)

Didn't give me bad dreams...or at least I don't think so, but I never (or to be honest...almost never) even remember having dreamt, so how would I know.

It also didn't work...I am still a smoker.

It's hard to stop smoking but very doable if you really want to. You just have to accept the physical misery for a couple of weeks then have the commitment to deal with the mental addiction. It also helpes to watch a few people smother to death from lung cancer and emphysema. Basicly, have the balls to quit or have the balls to suffer the medical effects.

The misery you go through quitting is far, far easier than the misery you go through dieing from smoking. Trust me on that fact. I've seen it more than once.

When I quit smoking, I tried the patch first and they gave me a horrible rash.  I used Chantix.  I dreamt weird dreams on Chantix too.

i definitely agree on the commitment part. i truly believe that this time i'm done. smoking has done nothing but help me shred my vocals live & in studio far worse than if i hadn't been a smoker, it's made me have to sit through countless interventions with friends, family, & doctors, it's cost me tons of cash, i dont exercise, i look like shit, i'm 35 & i don't want to become a dried up, wrinkled, impotent, winded, slave to a corporation. (i'd rather be a slave to a hot goddess...)

I smoked on the patch.

I recommend the nicotine lozenges

MistressRoux -> RE: no smoking patch (5/24/2010 8:53:54 AM)

Bad dreams (as well as depression, irritability and some other unpleasantness) often result from nicotine withdrawal, not only medication. The patch is NOT giving you nearly as much nicotine as you were getting from smoking. It releases the amount all day. Some would suggest taking it off before you sleep. That may help some.

If you look at studies, you're far more likely to quit and stay that way with Zyban or Chantix. You're even more likely to successfully quit smoking when these medications are combined with nicotine replacement therapies. The patch is common, but may not be appropriate for everyone. There are lozenges, gums, inhalers, etc. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY as most people don't use them appropriately and even doctors fail to explain how to use the gum properly.

If you need some help, drop me a line.

Best of luck to you. It's not easy, but you can do it!

I tried the patches years ago, and they caused me to have "night terrors". But I've also had this same issue come up when taking certain other meds.
