lally2 -> RE: Voices (5/14/2010 2:52:58 PM)

im a bit of a voice chamelion - i can hear myself picking up peoples accents as i talk to them - sometimes though i sound a little irish (went out with an irishman for a few years and it stuck) a bit scottish (because i have a scottish girlfriend) and a bit of an ozzy twang cos i went out with one of those in my twenties and that stuck.  but when i listen to myself on my answerphone i sound really plummy posh which makes me cringe - im sure i dont sound like that really.  so fuck knows really [:D]

switch2please -> RE: Voices (5/14/2010 3:15:01 PM)

I'm on stage fairly often doing slam poetry and I record/play back poems to help me memorize them - so I'm uncomfortably aware of what my voice sounds like, and how it sounds different at different times in the day, and how I speak more quickly when I'm nervous...
I know my voice is a bit low and I tend to speak softly, so I make an effort to enunciate and project on stage. It seems to work :)
I have a Colorado lack of an accent, but if I'm speaking to someone with an accent I tend to pick it up accidentally.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Voices (5/14/2010 3:36:17 PM)

I was apalled at the sound of my own voice when I was recording videos of my grandson! UGH!!! I just KNOW I can't possibly sound like that.

domiguy -> RE: Voices (5/14/2010 3:45:25 PM)

It's odd, but I like the sound of my own voice. I like to record it and then play it back while I beat off.

"oooooh, Domi stroke that fucking chunk of man meat....yeah baby...You know how we like it."

I gotta go rip one off. See ya.

Hey, I think I've seen that movie!

CynthiaWVirginia -> RE: Voices (5/14/2010 5:18:50 PM)

We moved around a lot when I was a kid, so everywhere I've lived I've been told I have an accent. [:D]

Years ago, I had a friend and roommate who was beautiful, her voice was soothing and low pitched but feminine...however, over the phone it sounded like a guy, lol.

As for my own voice, it's good enough I guess.  Years ago, a boyfriend used to tell me that my voice was so good I could make a living giving phone sex.  I was young and stupid and took it as a compliment...until years later when I went online and started talking with men over the phone, and many of them used that tired old line on me.

My voice isn't nasal, grating, whiney, nor does anyone ever wonder if I have dangly bits.  The only time I've ever tried to modify it is with what I say, not how I say it.  I am a bookaholic and consequently have a large speaking vocabulary...I had a friend in high school, here in WV, who wanted me to speak in smaller words.  I had to turn words like "that's fabulous" into "that's cool." [:D]  (Yes, her mommy did all her homework and essays for her so the poor dear didn't actually have to read if she didn't want to, lol.)

I've never tried to get rid of accents because I usually can't hear what they're talking about.  Since I've had friends from places all over the world, if I'm around someone similar I accidentally start copying some of their accent.  Sometimes I can catch on to what I'm doing and stop.

That's not what I think, that's what my personal experience is. It might not be for everyone like that but when I talk I hear the voice different as when I would tape it and then listen to it...just record your voice with a tape recorder and check it yourself....not rocket science.

Apart from that I think that this is one of the reasons why some people don't realize how awful they sing when they appear on shows where they sing. Of course, some people go for it anyway to seek the attention, however, some people I think don't realize that they sound differently to other people then to how they hear themselves. just my view.

Definitely agree with the whole "what you hear in your head versus what you hear on tape" thing for my spoken voice. Oddly enough I don't detect this during singing. I have lots of songs that I have recorded over the years and what I hear in my head when I sing and what I hear on the tape are very close. Dunno why there is such a difference when I speak versus when I sing.

I was in a sports bar one night having some wings and it just happened also to be karaoke night. Oh, the horror.

What do you sound like? Do you think you sound like you look?

Kim Kardashian whatever her name is, is beautiful, voluptuous, many folks’ wet dream, apparently, but I don’t know how anyone could take her for more than 5 minutes…unless she was gagged. To me she sounds nasal, grating, whiny even when she’s not whining.

Fran Drescher is another, especially that horrid voice she used on The Nanny. [:)]

I have a fairly deep voice, and a strong southern accent. I can deepen it more, and moderate the pace and tone, to a decent effect LOL, I've had a few women comment on how "soothing" it is, which may or may not be followed by a launching of the panties.

And I have a very strong interest in how others sound; a woman can be very average looking, and have that certain sound, and she'll have my attention.

Arpig -> RE: Voices (5/14/2010 8:41:07 PM)

Apparently I have a "Canadian" accent...but there's no such thing...a "Canadian" accent is simply the lack of an accent. and we don't say aboooot, we say about...the way it is meant to be said....so there[:-][:-][:-]

xxblushesxx -> RE: Voices (5/14/2010 8:43:36 PM)

My voice is generally a soft alto, except when I'm....yep...doing the phone sex thing, then I take a deep breath, and breathe a little differently, and my voice sounds very young and sweet. It's especially fun to do the young sweet thing in conjunction with playing the spoiled bratty princess (of course I have NO idea how they act!...) and/or the domme character.

I do podcasts and recordings in conjunction with my profession, so have a pretty good idea of what my voice sounds like. (also spent years fielding the "is your mom home" question from telemarketers)

DaddysInkedSlut -> RE: Voices (5/14/2010 9:21:46 PM)

I have been told I sound young but that I have the voice of a phone sex operator. Lol
