Second, I would agree that purchasing cheap goods from overseas suppliers or outsourcing production to make it cheaper is a problem.  The difference in labor costs really don't increase the consumer costs by enough to make it really beneficial to the consumer.  Granted, there are people who will drive 20 miles out of their way to save 20-cents but that's not what drives the economy.

The theme of this thread is about immigration and employers who knowingly hire illegals in order to increase their own profits.  It's not about outsourcing.  You could start a thread.  It would be interesting.

I did a little research and in cases where superstores hire outside cleaning contractors, the illegals were being paid in cash, in what worked out to be about a $2 under minimum wage.  But without any taxes of FICA deducted, the workers take home in cash roughly what a payroll employee would.  How the workers are being exploited is that the employer pays no Worker's Comp insurance, and if you can keep the "official" number of employees under a certain number you can claim small business status and in some cases get favorable status for bids, loans, insurances, etc.   It makes it harder for businesses who do follow the laws to compete with the lawbreakers.

So let's fight the super-corporations on a different thread.  Let's encourage the cleanup of businesses who break the law for their own profit.

Was it? And there was me thinking it was just there to bully Canada into selling you timber and hydroelectric power cheaper. I think it's the main reason they told Rice to piss off when she started eying up the oil reserves they have as well, wasn't it?

Bush is gone, get over it. Why don't you take all that anger and point it at the folks in California who don't want to lose their "cheap labor force" or do you think it's ok to take advantage of them as long as it's the democrats doing it?

There ya go...this is all Bush's fault too. Never in my 67 years have I known a POTUS and their supporters to blame so many things for so long on their immediate predecessor.

Then, as my post above makes clear, you can't have been paying any attention during the 80s (Reagan blaming Carter) or the eight years just gone (Bush blaming Clinton), can you?

I didn't notice anyone mentioning them. Which post # was that?

Last time I checked California was a blue state, but yes Arnold does claim to be republican.



So now that that is clear, do you feel it's ok for them to keep the illegals and continue to pay them lousy wages and give them lousy work conditions? It's kinda like having their own "little china" right in their own back yard.

Status: offline 		Now that its cleared up, again I'll say its not ok.  Next thing ya know we'll all be getting a pay cut or facing replacing a job to someone who will do it for cheaper.  If you can't pay a fair wage and be in business you shouldn't be in business!!
