I was reading a site today for My sign.  The neighbor introduced Me to it and as I have never read up on this stuff before, I was curious.

I am an Aries.  I found the description at the following link just about right on the money.

http://www.byzant.com/astrology/sign.asp?ID=1

What is your sign?  http://www.byzant.com/astrology/  Does the description match up with your personality?  Be honest.  I am curious how accurate this really is.

in order to call oneself “a” specific and particular sign, one must have been born on a specific day, time and location where ALL of the planets, sun and moon are in that ONE sign. so far, this slave has not met ANYONE who this is true for, so those that say "i'm a taurus" because they were born in may when the sun was in that sign are not speaking with much knowledge about their horoscope and therefore the cute little daily astrology section of the newspaper is not going to apply to you, them, or anyone else for that matter.

Where the planets, sun and moon are in your chart and in relation to one another is more important than merely the sun's position by itself.

Here is a short list of the planets, sun and moon and the aspects of one's self that each one corresponds to:

Moon: emotions, habits, memory, the past, heritage
Mercury: mental faculties, ability to communicate
Venus: the ability to make adjustments, harmony, beauty, the arts
Sun: the will, ego, personal identity, vitality, hope, creativity, authority
Mars: animal instinct, energy & drive, courage, impulse, sexuality, force
Jupiter: optimism, ability to grow & expand in consciousness, luck, wealth, hope
Saturn: wisdom, fear, inhibitions, apprehension, mastery, excellence, status
Uranus: freedom, detachment, intuition, future expectations, innovation, brotherhood
Neptune: mysticism, sacrifice, guilt, uncertainty, anxiety, the unknown
Pluto: the ability to regenerate, transform, evolve, the power to sustain

Consulting an astrologer like the one Mrs. Reagan went to and reading a short blurb from the newspaper centered on your sun sign alone are two different things. this slave has consulted astrology, by educating herself about it, with positive results and this slave pays no attention whatsoever to the little blurbs in the paper directed at a generic sun sign...it just isn't specific enough given the variables involved with the ancient forms of astrology that predate the newspaper column version.

the practice of astrology, eastern or western, has an interesting history. this slave's experience has been that it is a mix of early psychology and nature worship, or belief in a particular grand design to the universe.

if you are genuinely interested in what a horoscope reading entails, this slave would suggest reading anything by astrologer Linda Goodman. it is relatively cheap or free to have a chart drawn for you specific to YOU, you need your birthdate, place and time of birth. it is free here:
http://www.alabe.com/freechart/ the interpretation of your chart however, should be done by a competent astrologer, or educate yourself and interpret it yourself. all it costs is time spent and an open mind.[:)]

Cancer  Sun
Scorpio Rising
Libra Moon

but not typical Cancer at all.....probably because I have a ton of Sagi in my chart.
a good site for finding out if you are compatible in sun signs or venus is:

I found that it was about 95% accurate.

People born in the year of the Rat are often energetic and tenacious. They are capable of being generous and lovable and are good listeners when one is needed. However, Rats can also be manipulative and power hungry creatures, so those befriending them must be wary of these tendencies.

Using the Chinese Zodiac, I found this to be about 99% accurate lol.

Both were very interesting though.

I am on the cusp of Scorpio and Sagittarius (11/22), but read the Sagittarius description first since that's where My birthdate fell.  That was only about 50% accurate.  I then read the Scorpio description and that was about 80% accurate.

Lady Topaz

Looks like you have 30% to spare...

I'm also one of those cuspy people - Aries/Taurus - be advised you only have 9 shopping days left until my birthday !!!

Very interesting post beth.  I did take a look at that website, and it was fascinating.  I will have to search for more information.

thanks!!!

this slave likens getting one's horoscope forecast out of the local paper, or having one's ENTIRE chart interpreted by a second or third party in exchange for $$ the same as paying someone to read your tarot cards for you, both are virtually useless, but mildly entertaining.  actually LEARNING to cast and interpret your OWN horoscope or tarot cards is a far more interesting and rewarding experience.  it took this slave time, effort and practice, but was well worth it!!!  this slave went on her quest in the late 80's without the aid of the personal computer or the internet for resources and references.   having the computer to do the mathematics and geometry for you (just enter the info and bang there it is for free at the aforementioned site) is TITS compared to doing it longhand, while referencing the Farmer's Almanac, Ephemeris (astronomical charts) for the year in question and the Kabbalistic texts and other reference materials you checked out from the library!!!!

MOST important to the process is the willingness to learn something new(old?) and bring an open mind to the table.  also, the LESS money you spend on the endeavor, the better!!! [:)]

sweetbbwsub31 -> RE: Your astrological sign (4/10/2006 5:29:22 PM)

Virgo here... it was pretty accurate.

MasterRenegade77 -> RE: Your astrological sign (4/10/2006 7:36:53 PM)

Pisces here, it didn't resemble Me much at all, must be referring to the the other side of Pisces

acissej -> RE: Your astrological sign (4/10/2006 7:41:49 PM)

Another Aries here and, yes, it was a pretty accurate description of my personality.  I might quibble with one or two small things, but otherwise it was right on.

Somewhat right. Has it right down to the T when it comes to the imagination and stubborness though.

Libra.  Not perfect, but pretty accurate.  Maybe 90-95%.

I'm a Leo but the description didnt fit me at ALL.
I was born on the 18th, really close to Virgo. Anyone who knows me will say that description absolutely describes me to a tee!

The Chinese zodiac was pretty accurate though.

Vendaval -> RE: Your astrological sign (4/11/2006 12:12:04 AM)

I was going to post these same recommendations but Mercnbeth did it first.  [:)]
The basic understanding of a personality comes from the Sun, Moon and Ascendent.
The Sun is the basic personality, the ego and self image.  The Ascendent is
the personality shown to the outside world.  The Moon is the private self,
inner nature and emotions.  The Moon and Venus are most important to understanding the love and emotions.  It is instructive also to read about the
12 Houses, what they represent and how the placement of particular planets in a particular House effects Y/you.

I have had a natal chart done both the long way, by book, and by a computer
astrology program.  The first was far more accurate, about 95-100%.  The second
came to about 75-80% accuracy.  The general forecasts in newspapers and magazines
are not specific enough to be of any real value.  The best bet is to have Y/your natal
chart cast and request a yearly forecast at the same time.

Anything by Linda Goodman is great!  She wrote very detailed and reader-friendly
material filled with humour and wisdom.  (She passed away a few years ago.)

Blessings and Light,

-Vendaval-

SirKenin -> RE: Your astrological sign (4/11/2006 5:13:37 PM)

So evidently from all that I have read here, it is not just the date you were born, it is also the time, the place and everything else.  If you are on the borderline of a sign, the next one might be more accurate for you?  Interesting.

Definitely matches up. I'm an Aries with a cancer or Gemini rising, not sure on the exact time yet. The Aries trait I exemplify the most is the ''wit'' and the fact that I'm hella physical, and I never give up or tire out.

Littlepita -> RE: Your astrological sign (4/11/2006 6:40:34 PM)

I'm a Pisces and my sign fits me perfectly.

BreakingGlass -> RE: Your astrological sign (4/11/2006 7:42:39 PM)

I'm a cusp, Leo/Cancer.  Hmm...Sun/Moon, Fire/Water...gee, is it any wonder I'm so indecisive.

The Leo description doesn't fit me as well as the Cancer one.  My Chinese sign (rat) isn't too far off, though.
