I want to find a birth control other than condoms. I have high blood pressure can't take the pill. I had the shot that seemed to mess my cycles up and didn't like. Thinking of trying IUD but I like fisting. Wondering if that would interfere does anyone know?

as far as i know, it shouldn't. the iud does have a string that extends into the vaginal canal and you can feel it if you insert a finger deep enough, but if you are careful not to accidentally pull on the string or anything like that i think you'd be fine. the mirena iud is hormonal so may mess with your bp but the copper iud has no hormones (it does increase bleeding in some women, though). i have a mirena iud and i'd be happy to help if i can with any other questions about it.

It seems that one of your concerns is to regulate your period. You do you know that on an IUD, you can't control your cycles right? I just wanted to throw that out there.

I had the Mirena IUD for almost four years.  I loved it, especially the part where my period all but disappeared.  You shouldn't have any problems with fisting.  However, as noor pointed out, the Mirena has strings that hang past your cervix into your vagina so it can be easily removed.  Your partner will feel these during fisting and should be careful not to pull on them and accidentally dislodge the IUD.  I can't take the pill either, but the hormone in the Mirena is much lower.  I had no problems with it.

I'm just throwing this out there for discussion. Might the pressure of fisting cause the iud to stick into the walls of the uterus in some way?

i just wanted to add - i have to echo what reform said. the iud is NOT a good form of bc to have if you're worried about regulating your period. with the mirena, i spotted pretty much constantly for the first six weeks i had it, although i generally don't bleed at all now. the mirena is nice because after a few months you usually become regular again or stop bleeding altogether, but at first, your bleeding can be extremely irregular. the copper iud (paragard) works by irritating the lining of your uterus which frequently increases length and heaviness of bleeding during your periods. both often cause irregular bleeding.

i'm pretty sure fisting should not cause problems, and everything i've found in searching on it seems to suggest there shouldn't be a problem...but i'd definitely ask your gynecologist, because there's not a lot of info out there. it does take a month or two for your body to adjust to having a foreign body in your uterus (for me the first couple months were really uncomfortable and i can still feel it from time to time), and after a month or so the risk of your body expelling it is mostly past, so you might want to wait a few weeks after getting it for doing anything wild and crazy.

What Sylvere said.

It's a fab little device, and has made my life a whole lot better I spotted for about 8 weeks after it was fitted, but then pretty much no periods at all since then YAY!!

With care, there should be no reason the IUD should be pulled out. The thread is very short and coils around the neck of the cervix. It's easy to know if you're near it cos it feels a bit scratchy.

An IUD ruined my life frankly, it does NOT prevent pregnancy, you concieve but it scrapes the uterus away usually expelling monthly or wtf it wants, had one three years, finally got a blood clot which has follwed me with a nitemare since frankly, use the vaginal ring its safer,or get the depro shot, best wishes ~ jewels

I have the Mirena IUD, and for a few months last year my BP was high... they did not say anything about my Mirena contributing to that issue....

I love my Mirena and I am getting it replaced end of the summer.... 5 successful years of use. You can cramp for a couple of months after it is first inserted, but i hardly have a period anymore and it does not impact my moods at all

I had very rough cycles... and it helps reduce menstrual flow... so that is not true

A vaginal ring has the same risks as the pill, and if you can't take the pill you can't use the ring.

The depo shot made me crazy for three months. I bled for 4 months after taking the shot and I cried all the time. Seriously recommend people read about those who have had serious repercussions from that shot...

Mirena is plastic, soft, and I do not even know it is there. It is the best decision I could make. I can't take any other form of hormonal BC, and the Mirena prevents pregnancy by thinning the uterine lining with a topical hormone (progesterone). This hormone also helps prevent uterine cancer...
