I aint driving any longer then 10 minutes for it.

Been there- done that.     Next.

DarkSteven -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 7:10:54 AM)

OP, I would never hook up with "just anyone".  I want her to be a certain gender, a submissive, of a certain attractiveness and intelligence level, accepting of my religion, etc.  In other word, I have standards.  I expect that others do as well.  If age is a part of her criteria, so be it.

GreedyTop -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 7:12:46 AM)

*sigh*

I accept the religion, dunno about the rest, because that is YOUR call ;)

LadyPact -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 8:06:57 AM)

I can't agree more with Des on this one.  I also happen to think it's kind of silly to throw around any "ism" when regarding personal preference about who a person wants to interact with when it comes to play or anything else involving wiitwd.

As far as I'm concerned, the only place you get to cry foul (even if you did it in a lighthearted manner) of ageism are groups that don't permit you entry because you are too old.  Take it up with the TNG sigs if that troubles you.

Missokyst -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 8:34:34 AM)

The above..
And I really dug the answer about what about guys who are in their 60's and do they date women in their 80's

pahunkboy -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 8:36:36 AM)

Per a 70 year old.

Trade him in for 2 - 35 year olds?

DaddysInkedSlut -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 8:39:21 AM)

OP would you date someone old enough to be your mother? If not doesnt that make you a hypocrite or does your gripe only apply to women who turn you down?

switch2please -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 8:45:56 AM)

"Past is an attractive quality, one we don't often realize until we are confronted with too little of it."
- Amanda Fillipachi (one of my favorite quotes)

I'll admit it, I do discriminate by age when I'm looking for something. Very rarely will I choose to date someone my age or younger.

*edited to add, though it's totally unrelated - steampunk is awesome :)*

anyone old enough to remember the original A team.

I pity the fool that doesn't respect maturity.  Don't make me send Mr. T over to your house to give a little discipline.

I actually wanna see the new movie.. the trailers look GREAT!

It isn't ageist to not want to have sex with someone old enough to be your father. It is a personal preference.

Ageism, or any other ism only occurs when you violate laws. If you tried to pass a law saying no one over the age of 45 could date, that would be ageism. But having personal preferences is perfectly normal. As is saying you are only interested in people who share your love of steampunk.

Actually, this is not true. and 'ism' as in using it to construct a group based on some or another characteristic one wishes to find in the human condition or physiological differences, the word thus is suffixed by the group of choice, i.e., racism, sexism.

Thus prejudice against age (discrimination under the law) like ageism is defined as making any presumptions and also coming to any conclusions...based solely on age, other than the obvious physiological  (genetic) differences.

Ouch.

...such as assuming that anyone under, say, 26, will be immature, inarticulate, and not someone I want to spend time with.
Unfortunately in my experience, this tends to be the case so I simply don't spend time with them. I embrace my -ism.

I'm also a bit hypocritical in being offended when someone assumes I'm immature and inarticulate because of my age. Hey, it's not a perfect system.

Ummm Whats The A Team?

*flicks my blond hair and wiggles my 23 year old bum*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_A-Team

It was a hokey show- I never watched it- the key figure is some black dude decked out in gold chains.

Would that be bleached blond?    ;-0

Newnshiny -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 4:16:37 PM)

I freely admit my prejudice.

Yes, I'm a shallow creature in that regard. I want to be with someone to whom I'm physically attracted, as well as mentally and emotionally. Chances are, someone over 50 (I'm 36) isn't going to invoke a whole lot of lust in me. Ditto someone who's 30 or younger. I'd also like a family at some point, and someone over 50 probably doesn't want that, or they've already done it with someone else and have no desire to repeat the experience. Under 30, and they're probably still in party-mode. Therefore, I have a preference for a certain window.

It's no big deal, really. It just is.

Rule -> RE: Ageist profiles (6/1/2010 5:12:16 PM)

Um, one of my friends is looking for a wife. He is 46, I think, a weird erudite guy, an extreme Marxist, speaks Dutch, German and English, is on social security, has no sexually transmittable diseases (and seeks same), is surrounded by books (literally; like Dagobert Duck in his money warehouse), spends most of his day reading them, does not want to move, cannot take care of himself (he is a slob), has done some kick-boxing (so is not apathetic), not particularly interested in kink (but has the desire to courteously kiss the hands of the women he dates; I told you he was weird, in this case apparently a weird romantic), and - ageism - he wants them between the ages of 36 and 56.
