Slaves are people who identify as slaves and submissives are the ones who identify as submissives...if it is really important to you, to find out what someone is, just ask them, they will probibly tell you.

YES!!!

It says that the community is wide spread and varied. As a submissive - i think it is the amount of control and the extent of the contact, for in my mind a sumissive submitts herself -- but she is not owned.

ALL submissives are not slaves but ALL slaves are submissive

Bottoms are a whole breed unto themselves.......................JUST kidding folks

The problem here is trying to pigeonhole everyone and slap labels on them.
It's like trying to put a label on a can that has lost it's label. Whatever YOU
put on will most likely be wrong.

Why can't we just accept a person for who or what THEY say they are and be done
with it. Keep your opinions to yourself.

It's funny how much this question comes up.  I still maintain...the better question is why is it important to you what the label, if you are acknowledging your need to serve? What is this need to rank 'how submissive' you (or the ones who serve) are?  What does this rank, this caste do? What purpose does it serve?  There are a myriad of colors even between those who would call themselves (or be called by others) slave, or between submissives, or between subbies, or between bottoms...

If it is to denote or feel more acutely your possession, I can only offer this.  That for me, there is one word which brings me right into complete consciousness of possession, place and rightness of being.... and there is nothing more precious than hearing this word uttered to me from him...."Mine."

"Mine" is the word that matters, thanks for the post!

subrob,

i know many slaves who are quite capable of taking care of themselves, the reason that they and i are slaves is not because we can't take care of ourselves, but rather our strong desire to take care of someone else, to serve another person completely. If the only people you have met who call themselves slaves are those who can't function in the real world, you need to meet a different class of people.

That was sarcasm dear, thats why I typed "generalisations suck". My point was, be happy with whatever label you prefer to call yourself, as long as you and your s/o are happy. Who the fuck cares what other people think you should call yourself?
