They can be made in many hard materials - wood, aluminum, or various plastic materials. If you can provide me with a design concept or better yet a vector drawing from some thing like Adobe Illustrator, I can tell you more about the costs and limitations. Fine detail is best captured in plastics or metal - say a photo or detailed crest. The carving process can tend to chip out grain features if the cuts are too close together in many wood types.
