This is something I wrote a while back as I reflected upon the struggles of developing new friendships... It seems appropriate for here.
~Wounded little birds~

Along this path…this journey, I have had the pleasure of observing the beauty of nature’s gifts… Most are far and yet stunning still, they are…
Their search for substance… nutrition, a constant instinctual drive. Yet, I wonder sometimes it they are not aware of this need. I see them all too often, just barely alive.
Oh sure they pretend and flap their wings for all to see, “what a lovely little bird up in that tree”. she spreads her feathers and chirps a little tune and naturally the boys swoon.
she plays and giggles and flaps her wings hard, yet without substance and nutrition she soon begins to tire… she is weak and distracted, the scent in the air…they are coming, and they don’t fight fair ~~ All too often, I am saddened to say ~~ these lovely birds become the prey.
her wounds were deep when she hopped around near My trail. And while her wing would no longer flutter… she spread the feathers on her tail. Smiling softly at her, keenly aware of her pain… I offered her a sanctuary away from the insane…
Chirping softly, her tail feathers relaxed... she still stands in the distance, eyeing Me… I know she wonders, and with her experience I would too, if My offer of friendship is genuine and true.
So many wounded little birds cross My path… And while all of life’s experience offer lessons to be learned, My wish is that these little birds focus on their worth…
