In which case, Ayn Rand's cult following appear to have misnamed themselves. Most of the Libertarian fiction I've seen is written by people who hold that a return to feudal values would be a wonderful thing.

Doesn't that case rather presuppose that the wealthy are all self made men and women rather than having inherited most of their assets, in any case? People like that are a smallish minority among the loaded.

Initially one would think so. However, consider that if you've inherited wealth it is also very likely you've either been taught how to manage it properly OR, already had a great management team in place. It is very likely you already understand how it works, what the responsibilities are. A huge advantage over, say my brother, who at age 46 still lives paycheck to paycheck, with no retirement funds or planning at all.

You're conflating two separate issues there, though. The assumption that you can take all of a millionaire's money off them and they'll just go and make another million, and the notion that those who inherit their wealth are better with money than those who actually made it themselves are different things. Apart from a few lottery winners with a room temperature IQ going through their winnings in a bit of a hurry, there isn't really a lot of documentary evidence to support either case.

You are also confusing Objectivism with Libertarianism.  Not the same thing.

Not at all, no. Nobody Ayn Rand didn't say was an objectivist was entitled to call themself an objectivist, so that one's been deader than Robert Anton Wilson for a long while now.

And you seem to be assuming that I am sticking an imaginary ALL in there before 'the wealthy' and 'the poor'.

I am simply discussing the issue based upon individuals I either know personally or know of. I do not know one poor person that has the same money management abilities as the wealthy people I know.

Not to mention the fact that being a millionaire is not really that big of a deal anymore. Most of our bigger farmers qualify as millionaires.

I know exactly why I am not wealthy. I pay on time, and agree reasonable prices with suppliers and pay employees good salaries and benefit packages.

If I used what I know to pay minimum wage and then to rip the guts out of every supplier then unfortunate enough to supply me and then messed them about for a good while to delay and preferably avoid paying them including when they eventually took me to Court (where I could stretch it for a year at least), I would be wealthy. And everyone should think me a jolly fine person - a self made millionaire.

Shame about the people I shat on for a year or so who lost their businesses, homes and families, but thats life eh? Probably dysfunctional or even criminal anyway, what with being poor.

Not very clear.

Care to expound a little?

The reality is that, many of those wealthy people, if you removed their wealth, they would be able to regain it./snip

Bull shit.

I find the other end to be dumb- to blame the dirt poor.

Who said anyone was blaming the dirt poor??? You can say bullshit all you want but the facts say otherwise.

Oh wow.  Hedge fund managers are irreplaceable to our village.   Get real.

PA, I suggest you pull your cranium out of your rectum. I said nothing about hedge fund managers. I was talking about wealthy people, no more, no less.

A large number of wealthy people know how to create and protect wealth. It is only logical that they would know better how to begin again if they lost it all.

The stories of many lottery winners shows how poor people are often clueless. Obviously they didn't know how to protect it, and apparently, since they were poor prior to winning wealth, they sure as hell didn't know how to create it. Which is why they usually become poor again.

I know the reasons I am not wealthy. Do you?

So are hedge fund managers needed by society?

If you had meant inventors I would agree.   But not wall street shysters.

Does money measure a person today?   As in hard work- do everything right- get rewarded?

Is it really?

In case you have not noticed in the past 10 years we reward catastrophes.   We then give those same players more power- more contracts and more money.

So the 1%  banking class- do they really - are ir-replaceable to our society?

You could add into that the university crowd- are they ego or did we really manage this collapse?

??

Pa, you can't honestly expect her to answer that question, do you? Tell the internet world her net worth? Especially if she is wealthy, then people predjudiced against the rich (gee, who could that be??) would always react to "that rich witchLaT" rather than LaT.

Hang on, are you seriously expecting pa to respond to something that's been said in here rationally?

Speaking of whom, there's a great example of someone born to riches who definitely hasn't been taught how to manage money. "Daddy pays" isn't a great way to teach the kiddies how to manage money on their own. The money runs out after Daddy dies.....ooops.

Why do I enjoy a great standard of living?

Because you are on borrowed time.

Nope, I get 24 hours in each day just like everyone else.  It's impossible for me to borrow two hours from you so that I have 26 and you and 22 hours.

I enjoy a great standard of living because I enjoy my standard of living.  I am honestly grateful for every opportunity that has knocked on my door but am even more grateful for the gumption (there's an old-timey word lol) to have gone out a dug up opportunity instead of wait for it to come knocking.

I find I am way luckier when I work hard and even luckier when I work smart.  I find that I am happy when I know that money is worthless when compared to a baby's laugh.  I think I realised the great wealth I had on the day I came home to a busted out window and all but my children's things and my heaviest furniture...gone.  It was further emphasised on the evening I was raped.

I don't give a fart in a hurricane about people who float on palacial ships.  Good for them.  They didn't rob me, they didn't rape me and no one, no one could ever take my wealth from me.

I enjoy a great standard of living.  I am the richest woman on the planet.
