Tsk tsk.  I will remind you that you specifically requested that this thing be done, which makes it a completely consensual act.  Beware of asking for that which you do not really desire.  [:D]

LeeAnn you're a hottie ...

I think you should cage fight Lady Pact to see who would be my favorite Domme lol

edits.. I so think you could take her

I saw that.  Watch it.  LOL.

Actually, I don't think LaT and I will be cage fighting anytime soon.  Truth be told, I've always thought we'd have one hell of a good time together.  Our senses of humor match pretty well.  Plus, you have to remember that I was a country girl growing up.  Being on the farm and around the horses would give us plenty in common.

As to the OP, I did answer this same question, more or less, a couple of times on the boards in just the last couple of weeks.  The best form of address online is whatever screen name a person picks for themselves.  If you're meeting in person, you can ask what they would like to be called.  Calling people "Mistress" without a name attached is a protocol no-no.

divi -> RE: What should they call you? (6/7/2010 2:30:38 PM)

ty for Lady for destroying that fantasy I had.. and truth be told I just wanted to sit next to clip while you ladies hashed it out ... back to the fantasy drawing board hehe

theGuideGoddess -> RE: What should they call you? (6/7/2010 3:53:08 PM)

I really hate being called Mistress. I do not mind being called Goddess IF the relationship is in place. That nebulous "They" should call me by my screen name. Once known 'they' will know what to call me as I will be quite clear on that.

sunshinemiss -> RE: What should they call you? (6/7/2010 4:05:17 PM)

You know it's funny... I've been actually thinking about this a bit. I rarely call people "Lady" or "Miss" or whatever on here even though they may have that in their name. (Same with the men - NOBODY gets a"Master" or "Sir" out of me). The only exception I've noticed is Lady Pact. (I think I must lurve her). I just can't bring myself to call her "Pact" Maybe "ImPaction"? Hmmm... must think on this.

Meanwhile.... Queen Uber Goddess of the Known World Sexy Thang would be my personal favorite for the winner of the LaT / LP fantasy round.

I am prepared! Come on divi, we can at least sit and fantasize together!

I would also be good with HerRoyalHighnessQueenBitchoftheFuckinUniverse......... but it is a bit of a mouthful.
[/quote]

LOL! Unfortunately, yes, it is a bit of a mouthful, and the shorter version has already been taken. My penname on many other sites is actually QueenOfTheUniverse, for short I go by the initials QOTU. But, alas, that's beside the point.

Great responses so far, and I thank you all for putting in your two cents. LadyPact, I thought someone had brought this up recently. But thanks for answering it again. I believe all the answers I've heard so far are the most logical, down to earth answers there could possibly be, and I'm all for that!

PeonForHer -> RE: What should they call you? (6/7/2010 5:01:29 PM)

Of course, we could branch this into a discussion about what subs like to be called.  Do they like to be referred to as 'boys' or as 'girls'?  Should you use their screen name (or their birth-name, if PM-ing them) with a lower-case initial letter, without asking first?  I think this could spark a veritable explosion of replies  . . . . . . . all saying something like 'Eh?  Who cares?  If I think anything about it, I think it's quite cute, really . . .'

Or maybe I'm wrong.  But it does seem that it's generally quite different for subs, for some reason.

Almost all people that I develop a relationship with get a nick name from me.  Sometimes it is instant and others have been sad when it has taken me long to name them.  Somehow the names I choose do suit the people.  Although I will call men who are trying to get to know me boy or Sir as seems fitting to their personalities.

After pondering a little perhaps I so dislike Mistress as for me it implies the one on the side.....a kept woman.  Usually there is a wife on the other side.  It's personal, I could never accept being the bit on the side for any man....or him having one if I we are in a relationship.

Which is ok, because I lurve you, too.

I actually feel honored when folks tell Me these things.  When I come across as the exception to the rule.  It really does make Me smile.

No problem at all.  I had mentioned it last week because someone called Me "Mistress" after someone had just told him a couple posts earlier in a thread on how to address Dominant women.  Anybody not wearing a collar of Mine in some form had better learn to attach a name to that title.  LOL.

Welcome to the boards.

I'm surprised you haven't seen those threads.  It's come up from time to time.  Some of them actually do care.

My personal cheat on the decision of the lower case letter or not is how a person chose when they created their screen name, unless I have info provided to Me on the other side of what they find acceptable.  [:)]

If you're chatting with someone online, that you just met, what would you prefer they call you? From my experience, a lot of subs will start calling you Ma'am right off the bat, using it throughout the emails they send. Would you stick with that term, or would you prefer they call you something else, such as Mistress, your profile name, or even your real first name?

Personally, i tend to use the screen name.  However, if i am asked a question or told to do something, i usually reply with a "Yes, Ma'am".  But i view that as a matter of respect, not ownership or relationship.

Personally, i think that "Ma'am" is a rather neutral show of respect.  As someone else mentioned, we Southern gentlemen tend to use it liberally in vanilla situations as well.  But if someone dislikes the term, then i am always happy to call them by their preferred moniker.

I know, yes - that's a bummer.  'Mistress' has acquired a sense that 'Master' has never had.  A lot of women don't like 'Ma'am' because they've heard it used so often by shop-assistants - and the like - in icy, offhand tones.  For pretty obvious reasons, men seldom have heard it directed at themselves the same way. [;)]   For me, 'Ma'am' is the exact equivalent of 'Sir'.  I guess that would be true of a lot of submales.

~Fast Reply~
i've been reading this thread with interest, so now i'll say....i usually call Someone "Ma'am" or "Sir," as the case may be, out of respect. Or online i'll say, "Username, Ma'am," again out of respect, unless/until They tell me what to call Them.

Really?  That's interesting.  I'm guessing that femsubs would care more than malesub, but that may be just a prejudice on my part.  I don't want to derail this thread, though - I'll just keep an eye out for such discussions.

+1

I'm adding a vote to see LP and LaT in the ring.  Fudgemuffins (for those not keeping up, that's PeonForHer) and I will cuddle and hoot on the sideboards.

E.

PeonForHer -> RE: What should they call you? (6/7/2010 8:04:21 PM)

I don't think that LNT was calling me 'Fudgemuffins' Elan.  I think that was her way of turning a naughty word into something acceptable.  She's a bit of a girl's blouse under those toned muscles, I think.

Sometimes is astonishes me when the most critical, obvious aspect of a bit of prose is entirely missed.  Let's try this again...

(Yeah, I took out the "hooting" part... 'cause ya know... the two of us might be "occupied". :-)
