There was an interesting article in the NRA publication a few months ago concerning Lincoln and it told of his short service in the "local militia" and how the first time he called his men to attention they fell down laughing and how the men who served under him were a bunch of rowdy frontiersmen who did not take to discipline. They (the men not lincoln) broke into the supplies one night and stole all the booze and the end result was that lincoln was chucked out of the militia....not a big deal at the time but a funny sidelight on the history of a great leader.
I am a life member of the nra and they send me the "american rifleman" magazine every month. I am pretty sure it was a 2010 issue...I will check my stacks first chance I get and find the issue number and page and post it to you on c-mail.

After all why should I be offended at him, when I wasn't offended when his predecessor, George Bush II, didn't go to any U.S. Veteran's cemetery on any of the 8 Memorial Days during his years as President?

However - I was offended that his draft-dodging, Chickenhawk Vice president, Dick Cheney, dishonored all our American veterans by showing his face at the Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington during the last year of the Bush II administration. Cheney's mere presence among the graves of America's honored dead veterans shows his disrespect for them. Surely, Cheney "had better things to do" that day (his excuse of why he dodged the draft during Viet-Nam was "I had better things to do").
