I don't know shit about soccer.... but I know you are supposed to keep the ball out of the net.

What's the over/under on how many says before he off's himself?

I wanna get a bet down.

I don't really think it was particularly anyone's fault on that occasion, it was a shot to nothing and it paid off. This was the first time he had had to do anything in the entire first half. So it was probably a bit like when you are on your driving test; once you know you've fucked up the rest of the test becomes that much easier.

It's SOCCER stop calling it football.

The NFL.

It used to be called Soccer in England by English public school boys back in 1870.

Soccer is short for Association Football......and a term originally used to distinguish it from Rugby Football.

So...in short...the Yanks are using an English public schoolboy (think running round with stockings on in the woods spanking one another into a coma) term.

As for the match last night.....same old England......woefully lacking in a plan B against a very average side. Just not good enough to win that tournament or any other major football tournament.

Oh and Anerin.......they call gridiron football......just as we call rugby football in this country.....no difference.

Have a look at any rugby club....and you'll see it's called 'Bristol Rugby Football Club'. It all goes back to when the games were first formed in England......rugby has always been called rugby football......then there is association football...for example: my club....Sunderland...is called "Sunderland Association Football Club'.

The only difference being that at some point we stopped using the terms 'rugby' and 'soccer' to distinguish between two football games....and at some point started calling them 'rugby' and 'football'.....while other parts of the world....not just the Yanks....the Aussies do too....still call it 'Soccer'.

So there you are....a bit of trivia to digest while eating your Sunday lunch.....

But....credit where it's due.....can't knock the Yanks for showing an interest. And you're right....you have the resources to plough into it....and if you ever did take it seriously you would be up there by virtue off being such a big country.

It's not the size of your country but how you use it.

Any thoughts you may have harbored of making the cut for my team in North Jersey's premier softball beer league have been dashed.....

This is a tricky one to handicap.  If he was on a prominent Central/South American team it would be noon today.

However, the English quite enjoy "quiet desperation".

The factors in setting the over/under for Bobby Green include:
England being eliminated
His fuck up being a significant factor in their getting knocked out.

If so, he will commence a period of deep alcoholism.
Every English hooligan will torture him in public:  Bill Buckner style.
The holidays will hit.
He'll have the option to move to France or blow his brains out.
He'll blow his brains out

The over/under will be set at 12/23/10.

Ok thanks... My heart says under, but you know you can't bet your heart.

There is a decent chance, his being English, that this could fester for a very long time.

I am taking the over.

Bill Buckner never shot himself.....what a pussy.

Anyone who thinks England's overall chances rest on the performance of one person, is mad.

One goal is never a comfortable margin to ensure a win.

Some were predicting 4-1 to England. If it had been at club level it most probably would have been of that nature but something changes for us at international level. They start over thinking it and subsequently there is no natural flow.

"I don't want your ball what did you give it to me for, all I can do with the ball is kick it back to Mr Green so that he can kick it across the field to someone else who'll then kick it to someone else not in a forward position."

or

"My name is Heskey I'm a wide boy, so wide in fact that I'm always offside no matter where I am on the pitch."

I'm off to watch F1 fuckit because at least there we can clearly beat the US.

On the plus side.....the teams who win it tend to get off to a slow start and improve as it goes on. Still think you'll struggle against Serbia and Ghana.

<highjack>And you did! (I'm assuming your are brit?)

Yay Lewis Hamilton!

It was nice to hear the faint hum from Circuit Jacques Villeneuve from my front balcony today. I often try to make it down but this year had too much going on. </highjack>

I live at the intersection of the Italian, Portuguese/Brazilian and Greek neighbourhood of Montreal. It going to be madness here soon. Best kind of fun madness :-)

Germans looking even more dangerous than usual. Assuming they win their group, it's 2nd placed team in USA&Englands group that has to play them in last 16 knock out.....

Germans look very serious this time round. USA are going to do better than any one thinks .. unless they meet Germany in round 2 in which case end of story! England will choke, just like South Africa Choke in the cricket world cup and New Zealand choke in rugby world cups. Great players but presure from home to win is more than they can cope with.

You cant belive the buzz here in Souith Africa gripping the country (no I am not talking about the vuvuzela's in the stadiums) Its one massive party this month. GO South Africa make us proud boys :D
