It's our fuckin' game....and we gave it to the world....and there's more people (per head) in this country who watch football than any other country in the world.....we have third division teams that get bigger crowds than Juventus....England are the best followed team in the world....with a ridiculous amount of fans travelling to the end of the earth to watch the team......and yet...

We keep getting beat by these foreigners....still.......these pretenders....these Jonny-come-latelys who latch on to our game......

I don't think anyone abroad could possibly get a sense of the utter despair that is getting hold of the nation at this point....

It's not that it's the Germans....in fact by and large....bar the piss taking we actually quite like the Germans....it's more to do with England falling well short yet again.....and if there's any justice in this world they should have their pay cancelled for a year...because that performance.....and the group stages......was shocking...absolutely shocking.....so shocking they looked like a Sunday pub team....

I feel for you...I remember how our Canadian friends lamented hockey when the Russians beat them...and it was not fun when the US lost at men’s basketball in the Olympics... But such is life nothing remains the same... you were once a world power as well...we were an economic power at one time... things change. We die and the world ends.

Do you mind? If you hadnt noticed, we were discussing cats until you so rudely hijacked the thread to talk about football of all things; why ever would you think anyone wanted that subject brought up again?

England choke with all the pressure of expectations from home supporters. South Africa do the same in the Cricket world cup and New Zealand do it in the rugby world cup. Nothing wrong with the team on paper or even on current form .. that is untill they get to a world cup. I feel your pain England supporters, it sucks to "know" you are the best team in the world only to find out you know nothing. :(

So good are Germany this world cup???? and Argentina ????

Well, one of the benefits I read on a german homepage (before the game) was that the boys in the german team have fewer games to play throughout the year than the british boys and therefore are likely to be fitter...and considering that my local club I used to support back home always dropped down into second league for one year in the years where they also took part in the uefa cup I could understand their view, as it puts additional demand onto their fitness to compete so many times...maybe england should send out less known players next time

Ahhhh credit where it's due....you're gracious winners....a few German fans on the radio today...."well....you know...we vere (yeah I know.....unimaginative German comedy accent) expecting great things from England...they're great players you know....but they're not a team....they vere a collection of individuals".....

The Scots and the Welsh wouldn't be so generous.....in fact they'll still be laughing their heads off now......and celebrating like their own team had won the world cup.....

But....on the plus side....is there a plus side here? I'm not seeing one.

Ah god.....why did it have to be the Germans? Brazil would have been acceptable.....but not the Germans....dear lord....do you know Sanrda....you didn't beat us in a game of football until 1970?.....1970 eh...and even then our keeper had been poisoned the night before the game and in the words of 'Der Kaiser' you were very lucky to win that game.....but from there it's gone from bad to worse....

So......I'm supporting the Dutch from here....

The cold...hard..truth..is that England simply aren't good enough. Nothing to do with choking. All four of their goals came from basic schoolboy errors...at one point the whole back four had been sucked out to the touchline....which is just unbelievable...schoolboy stuff. If you can't retain possession....the absolute basics....then you can't possibly hope to compete in the latter stages of a tournament. And this isn't a good German team...England made them look good......they've got a lot of young lads in there...in a transation period...their own management felt this tournament was a feeler and the next one would be the one where they'd be competitive when those lads a few years older with a few years more experience behind them. It's nowhere near the team they had in 1990.

Brazil look like the winners from what I've seen....but would like to see the Dutch do well.

Actually...though needless to say I suppose I am more than pleased right now, that they lost against Germany and enjoy every debate on TV about "why the UK team lost". If our team loses the next round it wouldn't bother me as such, because as you say quite rightly...they are youngsters and by far not where the 1990 team was in regards to experience, and I think there will be higher expectations onto them during the next 2 world cups, so if they go home after the next game it would be absolutely ok for me...however, losing against england...nah...that's not something I would wanna put up with as long as I live over here

"why the UK team lost".

The England team aren't good enough...simple as that...

People talk about these great individuals and world class players....but actually...

Our keeper plays for a team who went down....Upson for a team who just stayed up...Johnson had an average season at Liverpool...Terry's struggled at times....Barry has been average at City all season...Gerrard had a poor season by his standards.....Heskey scored 3 times for Villa all season....

So...this team of supposed world class players...is a myth. At the very best.....really pushing the boat out......we have 4 world class players....one of whom Gerrard was struggling for form coming into the tournament....another Rooney didn't turn up....Ashley Cole was probably the pick of the bunch but that's not saying much...

Just not good enough....and you were right in what you said in another post....England have done virtually nothing for 44 years....and that pattern tells a story.....there's something seriously wrong in our footballing culture...possibly placing too much emphasis on commitment and not enough on technique.....

that's at least how I interpret the comment which were taken as offensive when Beckenbauer criticised the british team at the beginning of the tournament. Of course we don't know what he said precisely and how he said it, but I think it is more likely that he critiqued the technique which he did observe at the english games as a constructive criticism instead of putting it down in a hostile manner.

It was blown out of proportion by the press. He was saying something like England have no plan B...when things don't go according to plan they struggle to improvise or come up with something different...so end up just launching it upfield....and of course he has been proven right.....

Everyone I know who watches football regularly knew we wouldn't do well.....knew the England players are overrated.....but we never expected such an abject performance........and the worst of it was....that in the last 10 minutes they just gave up and stopped battling.....lacking technique is forgiveable......lacking spirit is unforgiveable...and unbelievable...I've never seen an England team that didn't keep fighting til the last minute...and I think that more than anything has pissed off a lot of people...because it's a kick in teeth to the people who go through the turnstyles every week to pay their wages that they couldn't be arsed to put the effort in for the full 90 minutes. You'll be surprised at the strength of feeling with this...because when some of those players step on the field at the beginning of the coming season they'll get a hard time from the fans....and Rooney will be the number one target.
