Anarrus -> BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 9:28:11 AM)

BP is continually blocking media from access to affected areas and workers involved in the cleanup, despite denial of interference and an email letter to CNN from Doug Suttles titled "Clairification of Media Access"

What is BP hiding and why are they afraid of public access to information from the affected areas and firsthand observation via the workes involved in the cleanup?
More importantly why is our government allowing BP to effectively run what can be considered for practical purposes a news blackout?

"With many instances of disaster, media access is a point of issue and irritation. However, media access to BP's oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico as been particularly stringent, reports the New York Times. Despite endless efforts to gain access to the Louisiana coast, journalists "have repeatedly found themselves turned away from public areas affected by the spill" by officials from both BP and the government, writes Jeremy Peters. Even obtaining photographs of the spreading oil has been a struggle for journalists. A photographer from The Times-Picayune of New Orleans attempted to take photos of the spill, but was greeted with a cold "permission denied" from BP officials."

I'm outraged over this but  you can draw your own conclusions.

Send Helen Thomas' fat ugly ass down there.

pahunkboy -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 9:44:02 AM)

They are blocking it- as the area is under Martial law.

Anarrus -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 11:33:36 AM)

Since when?

pahunkboy -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 12:10:27 PM)

Dude- when an area is under Martial law- it may or may not be announced in that phrase.

Who makes the law on public beaches in Louisiana?

Apparently BP. Or at least they're trying to.

A local sheriff sets BP's Keystone Kops straight. It's nice to be armed men on the public payroll occasionally serving the public interest against corporate criminals.

Unfortunately, the clean up workers got the message: Talk to the media and lose your job.

MrRodgers -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 1:06:07 PM)

Why am I not surprised ? We know why...don't we ?

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 1:12:52 PM)

So, it's Top Secret Martial Law? They declare martial law but don't tell anybody?

Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that?

Moonhead -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 1:24:55 PM)

It's the only way to have martial law when the population are tooled up and eager for any excuse to shoot at feds...

prove it.  Go down there as a tourist with a camera.  Report to the list just how domestic tranquility reigns.   This means hanging at the beach- the waterfront - upload the vids to youtube.  Leave at first light.   We love you!

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 3:45:20 PM)

What does any of that have to do with martial law?

pahunkboy -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 4:17:47 PM)

Martial law is the imposition of military rule by military authorities over designated regions on an emergency basis—usually only temporary—when the civilian government or civilian authorities fail to function effectively/snip

it is unlawful to hang at the public beach.

DarkSteven -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 5:39:27 PM)

Martial law cannot be declared by a civilian party.

BP is entirely within their rights if that area belongs to them.  However, I assume that it actually belongs to the US.

It amazes me how BP consistently manages to shoot themselves in the foot, repeatedly.

pahunkboy -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/14/2010 6:16:29 PM)

So BP is vigil ante??

Top secret martial law.  is that anything like "Double Secret Probation"?

I didnt know that Dean Wormer was the CEO of BP.

Termyn8or -> RE: BP blocking media WTF??? (6/15/2010 7:28:13 AM)

"Top secret martial law"

Close. I don't mean there, I mean the whole country. And what I am trying to get into a couple of people's heads here, and about to reach for a carbide tipped drill to do it is that the only time you can win in court on Constitutional grounds is by forcing their hand. They either rule in your favor or admit that the Constitution is null and void. Threaten to shatter the illusion.

If they can't grasp that they should just stay home. In other words don't fuck with it unless you know what you are doing.

Don't think I don't care. But I can't do a thing about it. And as they keep finding out at work, if I can't fix it, it can't be fixed.
