Four college buddies and I, all around 20 years old at the time, got an offer to help a married couple (in their 40s or 50s) move their stuff out of their house into a moving truck they had rented (one of my friends worked with the husband or wife, which is how we got the offer). While we were over there helping them move, I was in the living room about to grab something when one of my friends came in the room and told me I had to come see something...and he led me down the hall to the master bedroom, where he and another friend were taking apart the bed. As soon as we entered, my friend that was in there shows off this big black dildo that was as thick as a Coke can, 8-9 inches long, and covered with knobby studs... and he starts making obscene gestures with it to make us laugh. Before I could respond to the sight, the husband entered the room, saw us and the dildo, widened his eyes a bit, then turned around and walked out. When we were done getting everything moved into the moving truck, the guy gave us each 100 dollars cash for just a few hours work, which was quite generous :)
At one apartment complex I lived in, I was friends with the maintenance guy, and he'd tell me stories about the weird stuff he'd seen in people's apartments... only sexual stuff he told me about was how my next door neighbor (a guy, who had a gf) had a dildo lying out one time... and about this lady that routinely left like 10 dildos laying on her coffee table in the middle of her living room.
As for myself, I leave toys out every now and then and some of my friends have seen them while they were over... with reactions from teasing me about it, to indifference, to being like "cool."
The first riding crop I bought, I kept it hanging on the doorknob on the inside of my bedroom door. The door opened up against the wall, so you couldn't see it unless you were inside the bedroom with the door closed... so when I was moving out, I didn't see the crop and forgot about it, leaving it there on the doorknob. I wonder who found it... maintenance or the new tenant... and I wonder what they did with it. Hopefully something fun :)
With one girlfriend I had... I bought her some Christmas presents... all normal stuff except for this small-to-medium sized wooden paddle I customized with writing something on it (I forget what). We went to visit her grandmother (a widow in her 80s or 90s that lived alone in her house) for Christmas Day and opened the presents there... we were alone in the living room when we opened the presents, but when her grandmother came back into the room, she takes the paddle and shows her grandmother "look what he got me," smiling. Her grandmother just chuckled and said something generic like "to keep you in line" or something like that. It wasn't embarrassing, but it was unexpected.
