I know for years many of us have discussed the kink factors in Laurell K Hamiltons books and her seeming knowledge of our world. Well Bullet, her newest book, has almost too many realistic scenes and information for her to not have first hand knowledge, or a damn good friend who gives her ideas, lol! It was really nice to have the sex not just be about fucking this time. There was so much more attention given to motivation from both the dominant and submissive sides! Very nicely done.

And for anyone who is a Richard fan who has been as disappointed as my daughter and I have been in his performance, or lack there of in the last...oh i don't know 10 books???, READ this one! He is back as the man/beast we fell in love with at the beginning of the Anita Blacke series!

I'm halfway through it, I loved the part where richard pulled his head out of his ass and the resulting sex, but it seems pretty out of character for him...we'll see when I'm done. Don't spoil it!

No spoilage, just know it is great all the way through!

I thought it was common knowledge that LKH has been the the BDSM clubs in St. Louis for her research. Nathaniel is based on stories she heard about an extreme masochist/submissive who used to live in STL. If you read her blog, she talks in detail about the research she does for her books.

If anyone is interested, I've got a review of Bullet on my blog. http://www.themusereviews.com/2010/06/books-bullet-laurell-k-hamilton-final.html (Don't worry, no spoilers.)

That's cool! I wonder if she partakes at all. Not that it matters, I'm just very pleased with the spin she puts on it to make it more acceptable. It's just another one of the dynamics in the lives of her characters.

I just read the Amazon reviews, and they've basically panned it. (171 reviews with a 2.5 star rating)

Now I'm torn...

I sure do miss the old LKH.

Haven't read either author but now you have me curious, thanks ~ jewels

I have to say that, regardless of the attitudes of the LKH-bashers I've encountered on Amazon, I've developed a fondness for both the Anita Blake series and the Merry Gentry series... and I really like the authority-dynamics and heftier kink-based material that she uses in her works.

It's pretty good so far, more like her old stuff, I'm only about 2/3rds through it. The only thing I am having a hard time with is her pension for describing in exact detail every outfit they are wearing. I really just don't need as much detail as she gives on fashion......and it seems really out of place with the context of the action at the time...but maybe that's just me.

I love LKH both the Anita Blake or Merry Gentry! I have all the books! The very first one I read was Narcissus in Chains!

Not a Merry fan. And yeah, Richard's sudden turn around doesn't seem realistic. People need a lot of professional help to overcome his kind of issues. You don't just wake up one day and everything's rosy again.

But he's been in therapy for quite a while now and even attributes his change to his therapist. I think it helps if you are really looking for a way to justify what you really want. That darn, what i call middle class morality that jumps up and bites us now and again. It really does take time for some people to accept that wanting to do what is outside the norm is not only ok, but really it's own norm. We may not all have the same kinks, but i am betting there are more of us looking beyond vanilla, even if just in fantasy.

Definately agree laurell3 on the fashion aspect. Not a big interest of mine either, especially not in the dogged detail she uses. Besides it's all just costuming to be removed or ruined anyhow!
