Does any one here know of a source of old/new/gently used barrels cut in half length wise (not the typical "planter")? I am looking for this to make a spanking bench/restraint horse. [sm=crop.gif] It would be a plus to find this close to El Paso.......Thanks

A farmers market might have those barrels your looking for. Here in Columbus, Ohio we have a farmers market "Smith Farms Market" they have barrels for sale & half barrels too. Love your idea of a barrel as a horse &/of spanking bench :)

Very nice idea using a half barrel to make a tapered, curved surface for a spanking bench. You may want to check and see if there are any wineries or distilleries in your are, or companies that supply them, as all would be potential sources for an oak or other hardwood barrel. Just take care when cutting a wooden barrel length-wise as the hoops that go around the barrel are what bind the staves together and are usually a friction fit and not nailed or fastened to the staves, so the barrel could come apart when you cut them. An alternative to a wooden barrel could be a metal or plastic 30 or 55 gallon drum, also cut in half length-wise

OH, another thought is a plastic barrel they come in sizes from 20 gallons to larger sizes, I have a few 20 gallons & 1 30 gallon, but I use them to collect rain water from our roof gutters.

well I did a search and found some sites that sell new and used wine/whiskey barrels, but dang thier expensive!!! Anybody know of any full size barrels for less than $150?

WOW $150, I'll check & see how much Smith Farms is charging for their Full Barrels. Did you want them to have a bottom & top in them or just a bottom, or 1 or both ends closed?

OK, I went to Smith Farm Market yesterday. Their "Used Whiskey Barrels" are $35 for half barrel, $70 for a full barrel, and they are pretty well used. When I say used, they are used, you may have to sand then down, & maybe varnish them befor using them for a spanking bench or horse. Sorry I couldn't help you anymore than this.

Well at least a "local" purchase would be cheaper than the ones on the internet, thanks curbi!! Now to find some closer to Me in El Paso .....Any one got a source or at least a place to start looking, of course this "hunting trip" will be delayed for 4-5 weeks, cuz that's when I go home!!!! YAY!!
