Status: offline 		Unfortunately, people have nowhere else to go for health insurance. This is why, among other things, Obama is not doing better in the polls - it started with health insurance because we could have had a better healthcare bill. People would have had more confidence in Obama if he applied his presidential muscle on some senators to give us a better healthcare bill.


Anthem Blue Cross again seeks rate hikes for Californians

The firm plans to raise premiums as much as 20%, sharply less than the 39% maximum it had sought earlier this year but canceled after drawing outrage from consumers, lawmakers and President Obama.

Anthem's new plan comes as California regulators step up scrutiny of insurers offering insurance to individual policyholders in the state, where about 2.5 million people buy their own insurance because they do not receive coverage through employers.

California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner has hired an actuary to study rate filings submitted by Anthem, Aetna Inc. and Blue Shield of California. Poizner announced Wednesday that he was making the filings public on the insurance department's website. A fourth insurer, Health Net Inc., also will undergo additional scrutiny once it files new rates.

The state consultant who found significant calculation errors in Anthem's paperwork later identified math mistakes in Aetna's application, leading the Connecticut-based insurer last week to kill its plan for an average 19% rate hike for 65,000 individual policyholders in California

Status: offline 		They have nowhere else to go? ROFL. California is one of the most competitive states for health care insurance. They have at least a dozen other places to go.

Status: offline 		Really? It would be nice to find a health insurer at a reasonable cost for the people like myself who are self employed. I have what I am sure is a tumor below my belly button that has been steadily growing a half inch a year. It might be nice to see fred outside of my body for a change.

Status: offline 		It's like this in Michigan too. I am in a small group, we have to belong to a business association that does nothing for us to get the "discount", and we are paying through the snoot, more every year. Being sick fails.

Costs obviously depend on the coverage you want, but you may have a problem because of the pre-existing condition. Obviously you shouldnt put off getting it examined any longer.

Status: offline 		In order for it to be a pre-existing condition, it would have had to be diagnosed. Being uninsured, I have kept my doctor visits strictly for emergency services. I am fortunate to be generally healthy, so thus far no physician has checked out "fred" the tumor. I noticed it a few years ago as a small pea sized lump beneath a birthmark. It is currently about the size of my middle finger. I should have it looked at but really it would be unlikely I would choose surgery to remove it unless I was insured. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
