And the other side of the coin:  The Denver Gay Pride March passes the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception * and sure 'nuff, there were vocal hate-mongers on the steps.  I yelled back "Hate is Sin!" and got the crowd around there to chant the same.  Car in our section started honking in time to chant.  Guess what?  Some of the people of the steps actually got a thoughtful look on their faces.

* Basilica, because the Pope said Mass here a few years back.  And, btw, the conception in the name is Mary's, not (as so many think) that of Jesus.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Christians apologizing at Pride March (8/1/2010 11:55:38 AM)

I would expect the hate mongers to have signs that said "I hate gays" not  "Jesus hates gays".

Of course they won't do that because it makes them responsible for their own actions. They would rather big brother, or the church, or their parents, or the school or anything or anyone else was responsible for what they are doing.  I tend to think that people who hate monger are not very introspective people, they buy into whatever belief system that is espoused by whatever group they have given their trust to.

Well that's a nice gesture!
I wonder if anyone has told Rev. Jack and his wife Rexella ("This is what sin does to your hair!") Van Impe?

Oh Julia, do us Taoists have to appologise too?

E3 -> RE: Christians apologizing at Pride March (8/1/2010 12:15:39 PM)

I think Christianity needs to handle a very heavy question.

Are they based apon the 10 Commandments of God as passed through Abraham? (was it Abraham? If I am wrong, pardon, but I have not practiced any form of Christianity in a dozen years or more. BUT the 10 Commandments are identification enough)
OR are they based apon the 1 Commandment of Jesus as relayed in the Gospels.

Historicly, especialy through the dark ages, medieval ages, etc, Christianity was based apon the strict, unforgiving, demanding 10 Commandments.

But the 1 Commandment of Jesus is to love all as your brother.  And that seems to be the one commandment that Christians forget most. Ironic since it is the only commandment given by Christ.

In many ways, the 10 Commandments and the 1 Commandment can co-exist, and in others, they cannot.  When your answer to a breach of the 10 Commandments is with hatred, as has been the way, then you are in breach of the 1 Commandment.  If your answer to a breach of the 10 is to adhere to the 1, well then... we got something good going on.

THOUGH one thing that has always confused me personaly..
If homosexuality is against old testiment teachings (it is, I BELIEVE, not mentioned in the new testiment), and those teachings against it are held so tightly by conservative fanatics within the churches... why would homosexuals desire to be in a church that so openly hates them?  Why force the church to change, so you can be part of somethign that hates you?  If Anne Rice can be Christian without a church, why can homosexuals not do the same?  Jesus said the way to God was through him.  NOT through the Vatican.

E3, wasn't that Moses?
And I have two brothers that I can't stand being around.

E3 -> RE: Christians apologizing at Pride March (8/1/2010 12:31:52 PM)

Moses sounds more right than Abraham.  I toldja I turned my back on Christianity a dozen years ago!  I had actualy thought it was Aaron at first!

AQuietSimpleMan -> RE: Christians apologizing at Pride March (8/1/2010 2:27:49 PM)

Abraham played that fun game ... Burny Burny Cut Cut.

GotSteel -> RE: Christians apologizing at Pride March (8/2/2010 7:58:19 AM)

I don't think Moses was an unconditional love kind of guy. He was the one who brought the ten commandments down from Mount Sinai and advocated killing those who violated them.

tazzygirl -> RE: Christians apologizing at Pride March (8/2/2010 9:53:47 AM)

Yeah. I also dont recall a commandment to love everyone. Kill, covet, lie... but i dont recall hating someone being against the commandments.

E3 -> RE: Christians apologizing at Pride March (8/2/2010 10:01:05 AM)

But thats the thing.  Are they Christians, following christ with his one commandment to love... or are they Mosesians, continuing the way of "obey our ways or die". Thats what they need to address and consider. Becuase hoenstly, Christians, have not been acting like they follow Christ.  Well not as a large group.  Individualy has, thankfully, been a better story.

Commandmant no... but Hate is spoken about in the bible a LOT as being a serious sin.

Actually the Commandments are kinda weird in how they are presented.

quote:

And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

1.You shall have no other gods before me.

2.You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

3.You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

4.Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

5.Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

6.You shall not murder.

7.You shall not commit adultery.

8.You shall not steal.

9.You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

10.You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

The only thing it tells you TO do is to Remember the Sabbath Day... and Honor your Mother and Father.

Fuck everyone else.

. Like the song says - one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, baby. .

It is actually...."One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl."

Both Michael as well as the Osmonds realized that men were already quite aware of this phenomena and wanted women to realize it as well.

Jeffff -> RE: Christians apologizing at Pride March (8/2/2010 10:36:18 AM)

One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl.
(Ooh. Give me one more try before you give up on love.)
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl.
(Ooh. I don't care what they say, I don't care what you heard.)

I think this was a wonderful gesture.
Isn't it better to attempt to bring people together instead of
finding reasons to keep us apart?

Thanks for sharing, Ven.

Amen to this. Srsly.

Were you not recently serenading me with the Theme to St. Elmo's Fire?

I loved it how you grabbed me by my outstretched arms and swung me around in a circle while we both harmonized to....

"Burning up, don't know just how far that I can go (just how far I go) <<<< I sang that part.
Soon be home, only just a few miles down the road
I can make it, I know I can
You broke the boy in me, but you won't break the man
."

Then we buttfucked. It was lovely enough.

But Jeffff completes me.
