And don't forget to stop by the gun store!
A nice .40 Cal on your hip should do the trick. No Grislies that far south (that I've heard of) but there's always the two legged bears to watch out for.
The wilderness is not a good place to be and "need" a gun and not have one!
Now if I were hiking in Montana I'd be carrying a .44 magnum!

The real reason you need sunblock is that there will be 2 miles less air / atmosphere / insulation covering you.  Do NOT blow-off the sunscreen because "I tan within micro-seconds."

Colorado has highest incidence of skin cancer.  We are not all standing outside in the sun, wearing bathing suits (or frilly panties in the male D-type instance.)  Just day-to-day "normal" exposure does it - winter snow melts quickly in Denver, because there is a mile less of atmosphere to keep sun away.

You asked for advice, please take it.

Not to be scary, but Colo. Pub. Health says 30% higher incidence.  (I had no idea so high.)
http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/ps/ccpc/skincancer.html

Of course, a one-week visit isn't going to cause skin cancer, but why take any kind of risk?  Some info on skin cancer says that any severe burn anytime in one's life is a risk factor for developing melanomia in later years.

Hey, just slather the stuff on and don't worry! 'Kay?

And take lots of pictures!  Digi Cam has extra cards, right?

Actually, I'm taking sunscreen with me and I will use it.  I already got some.  I was just curious about that, though.  I've never had a sunburn in my life.  I'm also not allergic to poison ivy.  And I am taking my camera and will take lots of pictures!

I have a gun!  I have a gun!

No, I don't!  But I'm not going by myself, I'm going with a whole group of people and I believe a forest ranger is going to be with us, too.  I heard they had really cool moustaches.  I wonder if he'll be giving rides....

They have cool hats, too. And many rangers are women, by the way... though that doesn't rule out mustaches.

Pictures! Lance MUST have pictures!  Not of your particular ride-o-the-day, but a ranger with 'stache...... OMG!  Yes, please!  Pictures, please...... <no beards, tho - just as it says in my profile. LOL!>

Hey now!  I'm gonna take pictures of whatever tickles my fancy!  I do SO hope I meet a cute forest ranger with a gorgeous moustache, but if he also happens to have a beard, I'm not going to disparage him for that.  Do, please, wish me luck here, though!

My zip lock baggies are too small, I'm going to have to go to the store and buy some bigger ones!

And now, here are my panties!  I think I already posted these somewhere, but I can't find it.

Thank you for noticing!

I can't come visit because I have to ride back with the crew and I'm flat broke.  Asthma meds are expensive!  But thank you for the invite!

What a shame. I think meeting DS would be lots fun...Maybe if you fall in love with CO, you'll want to visit again, and you can see him next time.

If I could work it out, I would, but I have to ride with the people that I'm going with and I have no money for making detours.  I'm tapped out from the trip and having to buy asthma meds, as previously mentioned.

I dont know how you go into the great outdoors in the US. Aren't you worried about the bears ? I wouldn't go without an Uzi.

Meds are expensive in the UK too - if you have to pay for them that is. A one month supply for me is nearly £30 ! In a year thats £360 !

Here is the deal, you can holiday in Thailand for less, and get a few years stock of all your med needs, and get all your teeth fixed and more besides.

Just an idea, maybe a bunch of us in the same situation could meet up in the Land of Smles. I'll take Y'all downtown BKK, then jet down to Phuket.

Sounds like fun.  Your asthma meds are CHEAP, though!  I spent $600 and counting.  Just spent about $400 more.  Luckily, someone gave me the money.

WooHOO!  Awesome!  I need to make sure I get to the liquor store before I leave!

In that case, go ahead and bum a smoke off of someone while you are up there.  It will be a rush.

I will be leaving in a few hours!  I'm scared to go to sleep, I'm afraid I'll sleep through the alarm clock as I have been the last few days.  2 and a half hours before we leave!  YAY!

They might sound cheap due to the £/$ situation at present. In the Land of Smiles the majority of meds are over the counter, you dont need a prescription. The plan is to bring back a good few years worth of the meds I need.

I am in a thai expat/holidaymaker forum, and am getting some useful advise. Another excellent cheap meds destination is India. But I know nothing about the place.

I'm back.  I'm back early.  I couldn't get up the mountain, my body wouldn't acclimate, I probably need the whole 2 weeks and not just a couple days.  :(  However, I still got to see Sand Dunes Nat'l Park and I got to see a waterfall in a mountain.  I took a lot of pictures and I'll post them shortly!

Welcome back! I look forward to seeing the pics. Even though you didn't get to do all you hoped, I hope all you did was a blast.

(hugs)
