Ligeia72 -> Flogging with physical limitations (7/1/2010 7:04:18 PM)

From a Top point of view - I'm very interested in investing in a good flogger/getting back into flogging, it has been a while, so I admit I am WAY out of practice, and I never was much of an 'expert' to begin with [:)], anyway - I have varied physical limitations on my hands. I commented on another thread that I wasn't sure I was even physically capable of wielding a Flogger these days, but I'd like to try. Basically I have peripheral neuropathy, along with some other muscle spasm type issues. On a good day this can mean perhaps no more than a bit of mild, hardly noticeable, stiffness and/or pins and needles in my hands, on a bad day it can be I'm struggling to perform the tasks of basic day to day living (getting dressed, brushing one's hair, being able to use a knife and fork properly, walking, and so on) because I lose control/power over the finer motor movements/skills of my hands, and in my legs and arms, along with sensation (except for pain, and lots of). Obviously for a 'Bad Day' example I wouldn't even consider trying to pick up a Flogger, let alone 'wield' one in that situation, and that is at the more extreme end of the spectrum. Most days fall somewhere inbetween.

So, with that in mind, can anyone recommend anything that might be helpful/useful? Any sites, books, videos, etc, any tips on what to look for in a Flogger, techniques I can use/that are recommended, and so on and so forth. [:)]

Thanks in advance. [:)]

I'm not sure about technique differences, but I would keep a lookout for floggers with different types of handles that may be easier to grab. To be honest, with a bit of ingenuity, I'm sure you could make or adapt something to your needs. Keep in mind that a flogger isn't like a whip...it doesn't have to be wielded so exactly. I'm not sure how much mobility you have, but the back or the butt is a pretty big target, and you could potentially use a pillow or something similar to block off areas you definitely don't want to hit.

Some of the various flogger handles I've seen include the typical handle, a handle shaped like a "T", and a little ball handle that fits between your fingers. All of those could be attached to any type of leather or falls material you wish.

Additionally, I've seen a really nifty rope tie where essentially, you attach rope flogger falls to your hand...in effect making you hand the handle of the toy. Even with nearly no mobility or grip strength in your hand, I think this would be a fairly effective (and since rope is soft, safe-ish) toy.

I advise you to find a fetish store or event where you can get a chance to try out different handles and see how each works with your own particular abilities.

Along with the "T" shaped handles, there are some that are swivel with what amounts to no handle at all.  Instead, they attach directly onto your middle and ring fingers with a set of small leather loops.  The above poster is right.  The have almost non-existent handle weight and I love Mine to death.  Can you curl your fingers?  I'm not meaning a tight fist.  Just to the extent you could if you put on some very loose rings?

Yeah, I can curl my fingers, just depending on how bad a day I'm having I might not be able to make a fist, or grip anything to well. Something like what you've described sounds perfect. Thank You! [:D]

I put a hand towel over the area I don't want to hit.

I prefer thuddy floggers, and I prefer to whap, then drag it across the skin.  Sometimes I'm flogging with both hands.

When I hadn't done this for a while, and then went at it too long...I almost cried myself to sleep because my arms ached so bad, and they were stiff and very painful the next day.  If you have a basement couch or something to use your flogger on for maybe a week or two as exercize, that might be helpful.

When I make my floggers, I make some with wrist straps so I can hang them up.  Something like this could be used around your wrist so...if your hand goes momentarily wonky, you won't drop your flogger.

If I wanted to do this badly enough and my carpal tunnel was acting up a lot, I'd even wear a snug leather glove and make the sub duct tape the flogger to my glove. [;)]  I'd have to stick to single handed flogging instead of having both hands duct taped...lol.

Best wishes, and I hope you enjoy getting your groove on.

Thank you so much for the advice, and info! This is awesome. I've gotten some great tips from everyone [:D]

SimplyMichael -> RE: Flogging with physical limitations (7/3/2010 9:19:56 PM)

I bought three floggers from a woman who makes the most visually stunning floggers I have ever seen. I picked up a matched set of the swivel sort that THAT GIRL spoke of. I will see if I can get a website or something as I don't have their info but I know a good friend of theirs.

I don't make floggers often but I have a friend who makes them for all the big catalog companies and if you can find some sort of handle other than that swivel sort that works or you come up with an idea, I would be happy to work with you to see if we can create something that will work.

Again, huh?   LOL.

I could ask the gentleman who made Mine if he wouldn't mind telling you how to make them.  I may still have his email address somewhere.

Stands proudly before her and as he captures her eyes, he sweeps his cap off his head and with a flourish rarely seen today sweeps it in a graceful arc as he bows low before the Lady before him.

Is that better?

If you know anyone into custom gear, you can get one made that straps onto your forearm, that should give you more control and power than your hand. Vanilla amputees get *all* sorts of things made, that don't require fingers [:D].
