My point, DS, is that if he really wanted to give military members free access to the site, he could have just had them send him the pictures (not that it really proved anything) and chosen not to publish the particularly gruesome ones.

These were real people. Not things to mock and make fun of.

I think that's just what people were doing. I also agree, he had no right to call you stupid, blush. I didn't think that was too cool. He didn't tell them what pictures to send, it says that in the article. He just said to send pictures that prove you're in the military. All they had to do was take a picture of themself in their uniform in front of a tank or in front of a street sign. They're the ones that decided to post gruesome pictures.

Thornhappy, I think you just like to argue with me. However, CM is a member of the Free Speech Coalition (it says so at the bottom of every page), which means they proclaim themselves to be a non-censoring site, on the whole, but at the same time, the TOS does make it clear that illegal images are not allowed and will be removed, as well as images that are not for public use or that have been stolen, etc. etc.

Yes, they had to *send* them. He did not have to *publish* all of them. Using others' suffering for your own gain is the height of perversion, imo. (and not the fun happy kind of suffering either...)

it sickens me. I have no issue with publishing some of the photos (i did not see them, hence the "some") but making a game of body part identification is the epitome of a total lack of character and integrity.

I wasn't thinking about what I was doing, I was just quoting the article. But since you pointed it out, I'll ask mods to remove it, since I can't take care of it now. I once practically posted my own address on here with directions cause divi asked me where I was moving and I had to go back and ask mods to remove it, so, it was a mistake.

I emailed a mod to fix it.

OP: I applaud you for defending your right to free speech against the government. Men and women continue to fight for us to exercise that right. The fact that you choose to exercise that right in a horrifying manner is a bit shocking and in poor taste regardless of the nationality of the deceased in my opinion, but nonetheless it is your right.

For the 1,000th time................the first amendment applies to GOVERNMENT censorship/action. It has not one thing to do with private censorship to maintain order and further the objectives of the site. It has nothing to do with CM, the TOS or the Free Speech Coalition.

Like any business, there is a stated objective to this site. The site implements rules to further that objective. They allow expression to the extent possible. They censor when it interferes with their objective. Yes, censor and NO it doesn't invoke "free speech" as envisioned by the first amendment.

The OP is fighting a battle that is historically ongoing. That is against the GOVERNMENT of the United States to allow people access to information regarding war activities. The First Amendment applies and honestly, he's right and the issue has already been decided several times by the Supreme Court.

This is apples and oranges. The comments about CM aren't even remotely on topic.
