Cumcurious -> 3.5 Planescape forum Dnd game? (7/3/2010 10:44:35 PM)

Hey there. I'm looking to run a Planescape play-by-post game in the year future, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested. I've got one or two people good to go on Fetlife, but I'd really like some more. If you've never heard of Planescape before, it's a very interesting setting, based primarily on the Outer Planes of the Great Wheel and the city of Sigil. There is a heavy emphisis on roleplaying and the power of ideas and beliefs. Starting level would be third, and you can use just about any race or monster class you like. If you are interested, please let me know.

I'd be interested, but I don't know 3.5 rules...I suppose I could likely figure it out though

3.5 Planescape? Ambitious venture! Arpig, you'll find that 3.5 is MUCH easier to deal with than 2nd edition. It's like using a dishwasher, as opposed to having to wash them in the sink!

Except that 2nd Ed is pretty much 2nd nature to me, I have been running it for ages and know it inside out.
I have a copy of the 3rd Ed PHB, how different is 3.5 from that...should I track down a 3.5 PHB

3.0 and 3.5 are pretty much the same. They basically just corrected some ''mistakes'' from 3.0(Like the ability to cast 2 spells per round with haste). If you know 3.0 you basically know 3.5

Excellent!

Arpig- I started playing right before the switch from 3 to 3.5, all of my core books are 3rd and I've never had any issues. Luckily, since WotC was still run by game designers and people from TSR at the time, they created something called the System Resource Document (or SRD) so that 3rd party developers could use the refined d20 system and release products for DnD. Basically what it did is waive the copyright on almost everything in the Player's Handbook and Monster Manual, as well as a good portion of the DMG. As far as I know, all of the changes between the two editions were in the open sourced parts of the SRD. I'd suggest you use d0srd.com, as conforms in all legal aspects and it is the cleanest presentation that I know of. you'll find that most of the changes are actually in classes, the most drastic being the Ranger, which no longer sucks. If you could understand 2ed, you'll pick up third in a snap.

Also, another resource that anyone interested may want to look at is www.Planewalker.com. It's the official Planescape fansite, and hosts a supplementary Campaign Setting sourcebook that is full of fun and flavorful stuff. Including faction feats, one of which you'll get for free when you join a faction to make up for the fact your not starting off being part of one.

Allright, I'll read my 3rd Ed PHB and see if I am game, let you know in a week or two

Sounds good. Any other takers?
