Have you ever bought something, that you knew was pirated, bootlegged?

I recently picked up a movie that hasn't been released in the US from a reputable dealer and did so perfectly legally.

I have software that I was supposed to have deleted ten years ago

I have albums from American Bands, that came from Australia, Luxembourg and Thailand.Again bought perfectly legally with 300 plus witness all around.

Sure. All the time. I have no compunctions about it whatsoever.

Never. Stealing is stealing. I don't buy goods off the back of a truck either. Supporting criminals is not helpful.

If you feel "Hey, not my problem," then when you're a victim of theft, be glad someone else is getting a great deal.

Tim said it pretty well, but I have done it before, on Kazaa, a few years back, and it still bugs me that I did.

MsLadySue -> RE: A Pirate's Life for me! (7/4/2010 3:09:33 PM)

If the movie hadn't been released yet then I suspect the dealer was breaking the law selling it to you. Nothing legal about that.

I have never purchased bootlegged anything knowingly...

I have taken bootlegged gifts (people burn me a dvd or something

I have lived places where that was the only way to get things. When that is the case, yes, I have. Sometimes the black market is the *only* market. In the USA? No.

TheBanshee -> RE: A Pirate's Life for me! (7/4/2010 6:33:31 PM)

No, I really paid full price for this Prada bag....

AQuietSimpleMan -> RE: A Pirate's Life for me! (7/4/2010 6:38:16 PM)

Actually.... I believe Interpol and the FBI would argue your use of the word Legally...... cause it isn't not even a little.

It is hard to prosecute...but that does not make it legal.

What Tim said. Now the teen used Kazaa for a while, until his computer got so fucked up he was without it for a couple of weeks till the repair shop could get around to it. Plus he had to listen to them lecture him about his stupidity.

this is not the same as Pirateing.... this is you buying what I think is a really ugly bag for what I still think is a slightly overpriced version what a unbelieveably overproced Item.

Imitation is not Pirating, unless they are trying to SELL it to you as an actual Prada... then they are the ones commiting the crime not you buying it.

Rune288 -> RE: A Pirate's Life for me! (7/4/2010 7:46:02 PM)

You should seem my computer. Got roms and emulators from Super Nintendo to Playstation. No downloaded movies though, I stream those.

Arpig -> RE: A Pirate's Life for me! (7/4/2010 8:22:39 PM)

It is important to understand that what may be illegal in one country is not in another. Downloading songs without paying is illegal in the US, yet it is legal in Canada, because we pay a special surtax on all blank media (i.e. blank CDs), regardless of what use you intend to put the media to.
That is why the music companies have sued Americans, but not Canadians...so yes I have "pirated" music, but its legal to do so here.

Aileen1968 -> RE: A Pirate's Life for me! (7/4/2010 8:25:59 PM)

We were at a bar last night when the Captain Morgan Pirate and his two wenches came in.
We got two promo Captain Morgan t shirts, two promo Captain Morgan beer huggies and Captain Morgan lip balm.
Plus Shore got a Captain Morgan visor and two wenches clinging to either side of him.
It was a good score...

DCWoody -> RE: A Pirate's Life for me! (7/4/2010 8:39:09 PM)

Patents last 20 years (it varies a lot, but that's what the international treaties go by), for actually inventing shit. Copyright lasts 50 years, for recording a song, film, etc. I say fuck it, and mentally reduce that to 20 in my pirating.
