I'd like to share a dream I just had, in story format.

You arrive at the last checkpoint before entry into the facility.

Everyone is anxious, no one is smiling.

You're 5th-from-the-back of the first line.

As your line files forward to processing, you grow ever-more nervous of what's ahead.

A man rushes up to you, telling you to "stay calm".

He's wearing jeans and a worn-out jacket, reminiscent of his prior lifestyle.

He's clearly a civilian... "You can't be in this line, get out of here! They'll kill you!"

"Just stay calm. This is my only chance."

"You don't have documents, you'll never make it past."

"Just stay calm."

That was our last conversation, as well as his last words.

Shortly after this interaction, two guards strolled up and grabbed him, taking him behind the processing building. We heard a flurry of gunshots. No one said anything. No one shed a tear, we had become quite acquainted with death. Most of us had seen our own families succumb to the flu, which inevitably ended in a violent and bloody death.

I got to the front of the line and handed my papers to the intake personnel.

"You are immune to the flu, correct?"

"Yes, I am. Everyone else I know died, but I made it somehow."

"You were directly exposed to infected? You are sure you are immune?"

Chilling memories cross your mind, a shiver runs up your back.

"Yes, my brother was infected and vomited on my face."

"Very well, move on to transport."

This was it, I was finally heading to the safe zone.

I walked outside of the gate hesitantly.

I was now last in a line of 10 people.

A semi-truck was approaching. It was quite large, but didn't have any windows. Were we really going into the back of that? Huh? I had been told the safe zone was quite nice and that people actually enjoyed being there. This is bullshit.

The truck did a U-turn and backed up towards us while beeping.

Two guards opened the back of the truck to unveil something horrible.

A girl fainted, while another began crying.

A man boldly stated, "I'm not fucking going in there!" He was immediately grabbed by a guard and shoved towards the truck.

The rear of the truck contained two tubes running parallel to the length. They were about 14 inches in diameter. It would be extremely hard to get into one of them, but this is what we were supposed to do.

The man became violent when the guards tried to force him into the tube. I don't blame him. He was struck over the head with the butt of a gun and fell to the ground.

"We'll put him in last. Next?"

A teenage girl walked up and stated, "I don't think I can do this, I'm very claustrophobic."

A guard walked up. You could tell he was some kind of captain by the way he carried himself, but none of them wore any identification or markings. He looked around at all of us, we were scared shit less. I mean that literally, a young boy in front of me had shit his pants, it smelled horrid.

He grabbed the girl by the hair and directed her face to the now knocked-out man, "is this what you want to happen to you?"

"No! No! Please, I'll do it."

With that, she made her way to the left tube. She entered the tube with her hands in first. You could tell it was quite difficult to fit. She moved into the tube very slowly, wiggling in strange ways.

The next person entered the right tube, squirming their way in.

After the first 8 people made their way into the tube, it was my turn.

I walked up to it and said, "Can I go in feet-first so my head is by the end of the tube? That would be a lot more comfortable for me. Is that okay?"

A guard began laughing, "Yeah sure, that's fine, but when the tube is processed, your legs are gonna be where the life-support hole is made. Hahaha!"

"WHAT? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" My statement caused 2 guards to grab my arms.

"You see them there tubes ? After yall get in there, we gunna close off the tube and yall get shipped over to intake to the testing lab. We put yall into these tubes, then a machine cuts them into tiny tubes that hold one person. After that, another machine cuts a hole for ya to breathe and puts a feeding tube down yalls throats. Last, scientists gunna analyze yalls blood and stuff and figure out a way to produce a cure for the flu from yalls immunit-."

All thoughts ended there. Being knocked out is strange, it happens so fast that you barely know what happened. I vaguely recall the rifle butt hitting me in the head from behind, but I fully recall the story of how I got here in this cage.

Patient 302,888 is what the scientists call me. My mouth is so full of tubes that I am unable to speak. I can look around and hear what's going on, but that's about it. After they cut the breathing hole and inserted my feeding tube, they filled the lower portion of the tube with a fluid that hardened, making me completely immobile.

I can only hope that when they find a cure to the flu I will be released.

Day 182.
