LadyPact -> How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 6:32:10 PM)

I noticed today that a couple of our less than favorite instigators are back on the lovely "awaiting approval" status.  I'm actually glad to see it, as I'm sure they really have no other intention here than to specifically attempt to poke sticks at those of us who are happily engaged in BDSM.

Though, it does cause Me to wonder.  Exactly how many times can a particular individual go through the moderation process, get their posting privileges back, just to be moderated again a short time later?  Is there a limit?  Does it only hinge on the poster behaved themselves through their moderated period (two weeks, isn't it?) and then they can come back as many times as they like to repeat the process?

The question really is directed at any Mod who would have the patience to answer it, but I'm curious about what other posters think about the process as well.  Should being Moderated three times be enough?  What about five?  Ten?

Considering that moderation isn't used nearly as strictly as it has in the past, what do people think of it these days?

Jeffff -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 6:40:09 PM)

Personally, I think no less than 3. I am inclined to go 5 or even 10.

First, anyone can end up on moderation, although it does seem a little harder to get moderated now.

Second, some posters I enjoy, or at least post things that cause me to respond have been modded.

Third, The "others", lets call them the knuckleheads, are amusing.

I also support shorter lengths of time. If you learn to walk the line cool. If not, oh well.

juliaoceania -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 6:44:16 PM)

It depends on the member being modded and why they are being modded, etc.

I think that the usefulness of being modded is tantamount to public shaming. If public shaming has no impact on your behavior, perhaps you shouldn't be posting here.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 6:44:50 PM)

I think under even 11 you got alot of chances. I got threatened but never moderated. Probably because I cowered and said "sorry, Ill never do it again". Til I did!  So I would say it took a lot to even get you moderated and even more so now. The only ones I have seen banned have been complete nutjob bezerkers

Jeffff -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 6:50:44 PM)

11 got me once, it was for two weeks.

I refused to post...no [awaiting approval} for this guy.

I never really know what will get you done or not.

I have received my share, and probably a few others share of warnings back in the day.

Now I just seem to loose posts..:)

It also seems that the section you are in matters, If you wander into to P&R, you should probably have a thicker skin than in General BDSM.

Seeing how some posters have gone on and on, I assume that if you get modded now, you knew it was coming.

You're one of the unclean.

laurell3 -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 6:59:40 PM)

I like the current moderation. I like the fact that the mods are polite and laugh and joke along with us rather than being inappropriately offensive. I think VAA has gone a long way to address concerns people have about moderation and made a good effort to keep it neutral.

I've never been on moderation, I've gotten slapped and a few warnings, I never push it though. I think the people that have must WANT to be on moderation because I do believe they give you plenty of opportunity to cease and desist.

I have no idea what happens after the two month moderation.

juliaoceania -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 7:01:33 PM)

I remember people thought that mod 11 had some favoritism towards me because I was never moderated.... that was not so... they also accused me of reporting them to mod 11, which was not so.

I was warned once by mod 11, and I quit posting to the thread like a good girl that I can occasionally be[:D] It really isn't hard to respect the mods and do what they ask in my experience

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 7:15:58 PM)

I have been moderated once, maybe twice, and been smacked about 5 times maybe but I am usually so well behaved that there's no need to smack me much any more. I listen well, once given the evil eye.

KatyLied -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 7:27:17 PM)

I post on other boards, and for quite a long time I felt that this was the most heavily moderated board I'd ever seen.  I think it is bad to over-moderate, it does not allow a board to find it's equilibrium with the membership.  I sort of like the way it is now, but there are definitely some things that I find annoying, such as mods warning people to stay on topic, then a post later they are goofing just like they warned others not to.  Things that make me go 'huh"?  As far as permanent moderation goes, there will always be other sandboxes and friendships to strike up, and you never know what you might find in some of those other places.  In the end, it is up to the owners or those with whom they give the power to do as they see fit.  I think if I had a lot invested in my time here I would be more bothered by things, but by my own admission, I am here for kicks and do not take the entire thing too seriously.

Agreed, and I also think it should be on a rolling time period rather than an accumulated basis.

I think moderation should only be used in extreme cases - revealing personal information, threats of violence, banned users making new accounts, advertising on inappropriate forums, spamming, duplicate threads, etc.

For annoying, rude, or distasteful posts I highly recommend the "ignore" feature.

xxblushesxx -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 7:48:17 PM)

Yeah this is the only board I've ever been moderated on. (thanks Ms. 11...[:-][8|])

As for the OP's questions: Ask Domi!

Ms. 11

Ahh you mean Fraulein Fuhrer?

She never moderated me but she would always threaten to, and she was always really nasty and rude about informing me that she'd moderate my nasty and rude posts.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 7:52:48 PM)

I am much happier with the current moderation. I still remember One and Three writing me vicious emails OFF the boards. Good times. [8|]

There are folks who create boatloads of work for the mods, and I feel sorry about that. It has to be hard to draw the line between PIA and amusing. I moderate elsewhere, and I am fine with folks as long as they do not totally attack others.

I think that the POSTERS could go a long way toward keeping the trolls away by not fucking feeding them!! How long did we have to deal with our Bosnian correspondent just because everyone got off on pounding their heads against the pavement?

AQuietSimpleMan -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 7:56:09 PM)

I have been Moderators on lots of boards, this is the first one where there was public spanking.

I get the whole, "Stay on Topic" or "Continued derailing of this thread will get it locked" I even understand "-User Name- This is your first, last, and only warning STOP, if you need to contact me to find out what I want you to stop please click here"

I believe Moderators should be faceless, nameless, identities used solely for the purpose of order, When a Moderator is a Personality they show a real or imagined preference in what they say, If they joke around with "Mr. Smith" and laugh at them, and then turn around and Spank "Mrs. Jones" eventually "Mrs. Jones" might thing "Mr. Smith" can do no wrong especially when you see them do exactly what you did that got you spanked.

I think Public correction, other than being Moderated with the [awaiting approval], is asking for trouble, when you do this, anyone who didn't care for that individual poster now feels validated in their treatment of said poster.

Prime Example when Lobodomslave or whatever "Kevin" when he would get Moderated, he would come back and ask all the same questions, sure what he asked occasionaly was annoying but I have seen him dressed down for asking what I thought was a pretty interesting question.. The point is, is that when I saw all his moderation, I looked forward to being bothered by his post, there was a type of validation that came with his moderation.

Being directly commented on by a Moderator with a post that says they dislike your opinion, is in my opinion inappropriate because as a moderator they should be impartial to all situations and only uphold the order of the site, by giving such an opinion they tell everyone how the moderator is alligned in their beliefs, in effect telling them who they can pick on because the Mods don't like him either.

All that said, I always remember this is a free site and I am glad something like this exists, without it I wouldn't have as much fun as I do. The Mods, Admins, CyberGods, can do whatever they like, it is in effect their world and they get to be the sheriffs here.

Yet, I would only add one thing to that: an inappropriate discussion of a minor.

I agree with Elisabella.  Moderators are for pussies who can't handle themselves.  I have never even considered whinin' to a moderator but have had it happen to me (from grown *coughs* men, at that) lol. waaaaa

I couldn't care less what anyone said unless it violated another's safety somehow.  Even then, it is up to them to complain.  I just don't believe in saying anything that isn't 1. true 2, justified or 3. of ill intent (towards another). But, using those three categories, we should all be able to fend/defend for ourselves, we are supposed to be over 18 afterall.

Abusing the 'whining to the moderator' system ruins it for everyone in the long run.

TheHeretic -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 8:03:04 PM)

I never made it into the "awaiting approval" zone. I did, once or twice, use that phrase as my post instead of the "go fuck yourself," I felt was the only appropriate reply to something. I lost track of how many warnings I had from XI, though. In the days before the shift, it had become frustrating enough that I was ready to call it quits. I'm glad things happened the way they did, because I like a great many of ya'll, and the Fet system sucks.

Despite the consequences of the moderation change, I much prefer the more open atmosphere we have now. Yes, it would be nice if a certain nameless victim of Canadian inadequacy experienced having every single thread get immediately moved to Random Stupidity for a while, as was common for some of us once, but spam is a small price to pay for sleeping easy after posting with some feeling and alcohol in the system.

How many times? I dunno. Moderation is an art, not a science.

My thanks to VAA and the rest who have stepped up to the job. The atmosphere is a lot more comfortable now. Thanks to Mod XI too, wherever she may be. Still on an extended vacation, I hope. I think maybe we wore on her nerves a bit, and she deserves one.

kdsub -> RE: How Many Strikes? (7/8/2010 8:03:43 PM)

We all make mistakes and loose our tempers... Maybe even more than once but I would think if you argue with the moderator about your suspension you are asking for real trouble.

I don't know about that Butch. I think they take alot of shit in their mailboxes. I'm not sure it's safe to assume they take it personally and act on it.
