Depression would have more symptoms than looking over a cliff or complaining about the shitty parts of life. Having suffered a chemical imbalance since puberty, I know something of depression, though i was never truely suicidal. Even thinking about dying, doesn't make you suicidal, we all go down that thought pattern once or twice, for most of it's a self indulgent pity party that ends shortly before we go on with life a few minutes or hours later.

If someone was seriously depressed, you would notice it in their life patterns. The fact he still parties is a good sign he still enjoys doing things. The fact he talks to you and his friends about the shitty parts of life, means he's venting, and that's healthy too, getting it off your chest and having someone to listen is often the best cure at times.

I don't see any warning signs at all in what you've said. I stare at morbid blood play with that same fascination, does it make me suicidal? Nope, just a different brand of crazy.
Just be his friend, and don't judge.

To some kink is living on the edge, and wouldn't push them around unless you want them to go down.
