When there is a surplus of an asset the value of the asset lessens. Generally, the perception is, that in times of downsizing, the less efficient and capable are let go first. Therefore, hiring someone who has already been let go, means that you aren't hiring the people who will return the best value for the money. Not true in all cases, obviously, but in gestalt, likely true. It points to a couple of facts of life and reality: 1. Ensure that you give value to your employer by staying current, skilled, and aware of your situation, your company's situation, and the economic situation. You should never take anything for granted. 2. People are often lazy. Sometimes it's the employee. Sometimes it's the HR department. Don't let yourself be placed in that category. Firm
