Those that meet me in person say that I am exactly as I am on the boards, and that's as it should be. I don't have a persona that I put on here, and I am not shy, so there's no need for me to act differently. I know that some of my friends are MUCH more reserved in person, because social situations are stressful for them.

I do speak more cautiously here, since my words will be out there for anyone to see, and I have certain opinions that could be hurtful. I keep those to myself, just as I would in person.

I agree with sexyred1; it depends on the things she mentioned. I can communicate a decent amount of my personality or mood through forum posts, although I wouldn't call most of them "writing" per se.

If you were asking about creative writing, I can paint you "reflections of my true self" which you would have no other way of appreciating even if you knew me for many years.

The meaning of words - Beyond the dictionary definition, being aware of the cultural connotations or emotional triggers is useful when you're being sneaky!

I tend to say what I feel and live by what I say, some may smile, laugh a little whether it be at me or at my words, can't really say. I have to agree with subpet in the respect that once a word is heard, researched, the more I use it the more it becomes a part of my vocabulary for daily use, having a pocket dictionary has come in handy. And yes I am a lousy typer, I use the poke and hope method of typing, I poke for letters and hope I hit the right ones.

True "shelves"? "Apart" or "a part" mean different things, too.

Poor writing can reflect a mild illiteracy, or a lack of effort or attention to detail. Either way, it doesn't flatter you or the object of your desire if you're sloppy. So I would say while writing often reflects what we want it to reflect, poor writing is therefore subject to question just for that reason.

When i write, i'm being myself. i might say more of myself; myself concentrated. i get to choose my words carefully when i write. i get to take my time, handpicking words that will say exactly what i mean. i'm clearer and more direct when i write. i also take care to be really honest. The result is more pure, more me, less filler than when i just speak.

On the other hand, i don't have a SELF, but rather VARIOUS SELVES. That might sound stupid, but it's true. How can you be true to yourself when "yourself" keeps changing? My personality isn't static. It has different facets, and in different situations, certain characteristics are pulled forward while others are left unexpressed. So, how can i really be true to my "self", my ONE self? i have many different selves, many different "people" who comprise me as a whole. i guess i try to be true to them all, but not all at the same time. Trying to represent every facet of my personality at once through writing would be confusing. i don't think it could be done. You have to pick one facet and be true to that.

Human beings aren't like math problems. There is no one simple answer. A person cannot faithfully recreate themselves through writing. All they can do is reinterpret. Whether that be in a real life conversation, on an internet forum, or in a diary.

true enough what someone types meaning one thing can be taken as an insult or a complaint by another, online conversations tend to lose things in translation at times

There are moments when someone says what I'd probably opt not to express due to tact. However, in this case you summed up my thoughts quite succinctly.

Words are powerful regardless if one agrees with this fact or not. How someone uses words is a personal choice & yet not everyone is willing to take responsibility for their choice of words. Some will use words in a conscious manner as would an artist painting a masterpiece. While others use words and think of their meaning or impact later & in some instances not at all.

As human beings we all have our personal associations to words which modify their meaning to a degree. What certain words may mean to another are not always the same to everyone. Individuality is a factor in words as the meaning to each word increases or decreases depending on the meaning and personal association to each person, subjectively speaking that is.

Still in all words are powerful if they be written and or verbally expressed. Hopefully they are used in a manner that construct imprints that are worthy of memorable recollecting more than not.

I think virtually everything you write is in a way autobiographical. Any piece of writing says something about the author. How funny they can be. How miserable. How smart or not so smart.

Also what someone writes can be a Freudian slip of sorts. It can say something truthful about the writer and they are unaware they are saying it.

Orwell reckoned anything above the level of a railway guide was bound to reflect the writer's biases somehow. If so then the posts on this here board should say something about their author's biases. I mean aren't the posts here above the mundane level of a railway guide?

I try my best to honor the woman that I am, regardless of the medium. The fact that Im representing myself in font as opposed to flesh should make no difference. The only difference is none of you can see me when I blush

I can't believe I didn't answer this the first time around. I might not have been reading OTD at the time.

Anyway....

I think I'm fairly myself here when I write. In person, I can be quite the cut-up, snarky and sarcastic. All I need is an audience (one will suffice - what am I saying? half the time I'll just entertain myself). Other times I'm serious and informative, helpful even, as I can do here. It depends on the situation.

Other times I don't have much of an opinion and just drift away. I do that here from time to time. You just don't have to read about it.
